It would seem that I am in need of a hearing aid or maybe two.. Possibly all in the ear ones.
Do any of the members have experiences that they would to share, and companies they could recommend on the forum from personal experience ?
Complying with group rules if you have had a bad experience and would not use a company again, then please contact me by PM.. I will reply :-)

I got mine from Donald a few years back. Did a great job.
I don't have his phone number but he is the bass player in midlife crisis band.

Decided to address my loss of hearing earlier this year and I was recommended the one opposite the General. Pleased with the attention given and have been back quite a few times as some tweaking is required. Ok he did the sales pitch with me but he’s a nice chap and good English.

Thank you Johnny... I suppose 'the sales pitch' is something that they do.. they have to sell aids or they close down... I am a little concerned about you having to go back a few times.. That is a bit off putting.
One consideration is the cost... And I believe that if I wait until next June that the aids may well be available under the Gesy system..

Hi Trev - I suppose loss of hearing differs from person to person. In my case I have three channels on my hearing aids programmed as ‘Normal’ ‘Television’ and ‘Crowd’ because I hear different pitches better than others and merely needed tweaking to get what was best for me in the three different environments. Hope that makes sense.

Regards

I am very happy with Euthymiades. They have their main office in Nicosia, but they are on Wednesday and Friday in Paphos at the Elean shop in Makarios street. Very professional. Phone to make an appointment 77.77.73.37

I went to the ENT specialist opposite the Dentist (Dr. Lenia) as I did not want a hearing aid specialist to do the test as all they want is a sale. After the test, I then went across the road and saw a hearing aid specialist. I got a loan one for trial and after a couple of visits and adjustments. I selected the one that he thought was best for my hearing impediment.I have had it nearly two years now and at first, had to call back to see him a few times for minor tweaking. I have three settings for different hearing levels.
The ENT chap I saw is Dr. Andreas Antoniades. Mobile 99675355, he gave me the report after the test. The hearing aid specialist I saw is Andreas Ellinides, mobile 99960111. Hope this is some help to you Trev.

'Dr George' covers the whole island and he has provided me with two 'on top of the ear' ones which are very discreet (it took my daughter, on a visit, 2 days to realise I was wearing them). They are the Swiss Bernafon make. They have 6 easily-adjustable volume levels for different conditions. Cost? €2000 + 200 for the optional rechargeable battery system.
http://www.drgeorgehearingaids.com/en/contact
Important: he stocks spares and accessories, such as the gizmos to replace wax-blocked canals in the transducers (€1.00 each)
His use of the title Dr, which is unusual in Europe for hearing aid specialists, is because he has a doctorate (in audio technologies, I think) from an American University

Thank you for the two latest recommendations... I chatted this afternoon with friends who have hearing aids and gained even more information.. One thing this post has shown me is that hearing aids are not cheap..
However I have taken the first step and have an appointment with our GP tomorrow..

MOH took the hearing test at the general (before GESY). The results were emailed to Hearing Direct in UK, along with the choice of aid selected and extra batteries ordered. Within the week, they were back. Any queries were answered quickly, and after the next test the aids were posted back, while the new test result was emailed over. They came back, adjusted and looking like new. Joan and her team are very helpful and a fraction of the price of any here on the island. Easily found on the search engine.

Thanks Trev. Did she use the big old fashioned steel syringe? She did my ears a long time ago. I am with Dr Dora now.
