Will that number be able to assist though, if you are phoning them in Cyprus about a problem in the UK?

Not sure but maybe you could ask the local operator to transfer you to another EU country's operator?

I think the key point is that in an emergency you want the quickest route possible.

I have asked the Facebook pages of my local nick back in the UK. See if they know.

Just heard back from plod. You cannot access the 999 service internationally. Your best bet therefore would be to find the number of the local police station and give them a call.

I think you can dial 911, 999 or 199 or 112 in any country and be connected to emergency services.... I think the routing takes place to cope with tourists
