Dont try to speed away, and the Police will not shoot, or I'm I missing something?

19 and 24, that's hardly youngsters. Old enough to ride quad bikes and thereby old enough to kill others with reckless driving behaviour.

Youngsters my a**e!
I was expecting kids of 14 to 16 when I saw the headline this morning but these aren't kids by a long chalk. Obviously acting like big men when it suits then hiding behind mum's apron when they get caught out.

Old enough to vote. Old enough to drive. Old enough to get married. Old enough to serve in the armed forces. Old enough to know better.

They were lucky the police didn't shoot out the tyres, which may have resulted in a nasty crash with more severe injuries ...

The officer(s) how fired the shots should have there firearm authorization to carry removed.
From the news article they where moving away from them and not a direct threat to there safety.
This could lead to them been charged with unlawful wounding.
You do not unleash a deadly force unless you are in direct danger!
What if they missed the target where would the bullet went then, some innocent person could have been killed.

Ex firearms holder!
Ex member of a police gun club!

With respect comments like yours, is what has led the UK to be a lawless, country where every scumbag, is laughing at the Police, murders everyday, scumbags on mopeds robbing and terrorising innocent people etc etc, im guessing the next lowlife who is thinking of failing to stop, will think twice, knowing the Police might shoot, well done the Cypriot Police, rant over.

The end game here is that if signaled by the police to stop, it is better to obey! This isn’t the nanny state the UK has become. Having been to the UK recently, I can say that I feel far safer here in Paphos. In the UK many people think they are above the law, including criminals...
The police are known to be tough here, so as long as one obeys the law there should be no problem.

Back in the day while having Holidays in the U S A, the one thing I drummed into my teenage boys was, when a Policeman told them to do something , do it,,,,never ever put your hands in your pockets, and follow their orders with a Yes Sir, when Police carry guns, you dont give them any excuse to use them.

Exactly! Having seen a policeman running toward me with his gun drawn, I froze. He was chasing someone and I gave him no cause for alarm. Guns are a lot bigger in real life!!

It is common practice, here in Cyprus, for the police to shoot at the tyres of vehicles that refuse to stop. Cyprus is not the UK, they do things differently here.

According to the news report that I read >
Instead, according to police, the biker accelerated towards a police officer who fired warning shots.
So, by my reckoning, the police officer thought there was a threat on his life.

No, by my reckoning, the police thought that shooting at their tires was the best way to stop them. Unfortunately , this caused leg injuries, but presumably those weren’t life threatening.Had they chased these people a crash could have ensued which could have caused them more severe injuries.
They should have stopped.

Where does it state that they were shooting at the tyres??

How do you know that is what the police were doing?

Using that logic every time you drive a car you are unleashing deadly force.
