Yes,driving along the market road I saw lots if workers beavering away to get things tidied up on the remaining building sites! Noted that loads of little poinsettias have suddenly appeared in many of the municipal flowers beds!

Kili01 wrote: Tue Dec 05, 2017 8:29 pm Well at least the road past the market is now open again as from last week end. But is one way towards Chloraka direction for most of its length. That should also help to reduce the queue of traffic trying to get up the hill from K.Paphos to the old town! It is wonderful to see that before too long most of the old town roadworks will hopefully be a thing of the past!

I hope you're right, it seems to have been non stop roadworks in Paphos since about 2002 when they were pedestrianising Bar St, then the Harbour, the sewerage, TOTK's etc.
I hope that when the current works are completed that there will be a break for a while so that we can all enjoy driving around Paphos and appreciate the benefits of all the works before the next phase starts.

It is much more fun walking around than driving around ;) ;)

Yes, I don't mind walking, but not if its raining or in very hot sunny weather... problem is that with all the accent on pedestrianisation very little thought was paid to either providing shade or shelter from the elements for shoppers or other visitors. In the event of inclement weather I would tend to go to the Mall instead. I suspect that many other residents may feel the same!
Especially when the novelty of the revamped Old Town has worn off.

I'm not sure if I dare ask, but did the main road up from the harbour to the Mall roundabout reopen today, 8th Dec 2017, on schedule and as planned, please?

AL :?

Not sure AL maybe someone else knows but a lot of finishing off work is being done in the "upper" Old Town area to get it ready for the ceremony on Sunday!

Sadly no Al, I was there today and the road looked far from completion, unless the builders work frenetically overnight, it won't open tomorrow either. Look forward to seeing you in February Al.

Had a laugh today Shane in the old town approaches, the ugly wall, next to the closed petrol station as you approach the main BOC on the right hand side, was screened with green netting, soil was imported and workers were planting flowers!!

The road approaching Kenedy Square was closed so other work could be completed.

Al for the visit of El Presidente......

Saw them Mark, thought Kennedy Square approach was closed because of a blocked drainage channel, well that is what it looked like when I passed by. But what I thought funny was the workers using hand powered augurs to dig holes for the plants not like Alan Titchmarsh & the Ground Force crew with their trowels? :)

I said it was and it is in a way it is rail car to show tourist the view from above
A friend from work was over last week and he is from our engineering department. I asked him to have a look and give me his view on the walk way. He said it is a mono rail. He has been in engineering for 30 years.

That's interesting, and what I and others were already thinking... but have only heard it referred to officially as a walkway! I imagine that to install a mono rail would be very expensive indeed! Is Paphos likely to have the funds to do something like that? Also would such a cost be justified?

It's what my first thoughts were when I viewed it. That's why I posted the link of the German one. Maybe they do a mini version.

When they first started it I had hoped it was going to be wide enough for the old London double decker tour buses could go over it.

No, but they can go under it as it crosses Agios Pavlos Ave, road to the harbour!
