Ah well Grumps, seems our illustrious leader isn't prepared to elucidate why Islam is a religion, other than to say "it is a religion" Hmmmm, on what basis.?

I just Googled "what is Islam?"
When words such as faith, belief and religion are mentioned in almost every description one must assume it could be classed as a religion.... It was enough to convince me anyway.

How in God's (or Allah's) name can Islam be called a religion, when it contains two factions at perpetual WAR with one another? Sunni v Shia

For surely if you know nothing then you are not entitled to pass an opinion on any?? Or am I wrong?
lol surely that would kill all forums & social media
From another Catholic - am not sure on what basis people you believe Islam is not a religion other
than your comments/opinion of how it deals with forgiveness?
Cheers

What about Catholics vs Protestants? They don't exactly get on all the time. Historically they have been atrocious to each other.
Let him who is without sin cast the first stone, and all that.

Plus, if you look up the word "Religion" in any dictionary, the word "forgiveness" isn't even mentioned.
"Belief in or acknowledgement of some superhuman power or powers (esp. a god or gods) which is typically manifested in obedience, reverence, and worship; such a belief as part of a system defining a code of living, esp. as a means of achieving spiritual or material improvement."
That is from the Oxford English Dictionary.

I can understand where smudger is coming from.
Religion is the external practice of an internal faith ie the 'ceremonial' observance of a set of beliefs. Whilst Islam, on the face of it, is a religion, it would be true to say that it is not JUST a religion. To follow Islam is not JUST following a god - it's a system of living life which encompasses its own social system, political system and justice system. In that respect, Islam (which means submit) is like no other religion. As smudger says, it is a regime. It will tell you what you can or cannot wear, what you can or cannot eat or drink, how many times you must pray and even what specific times to pray. Islam expects total submission by its followers, and also for its followers to get the infidels (us) to submit to their way of life.
One of the great problems in the West at the moment is to treat Islam purely as a belief system (or religion) and to totally ignore 'Islamisation' which seeks to make the whole world 'submit' to the tenets of the regime. This has resulted in our culture being constantly changed whilst they will challenge any requirement for them to change in any way. Why (they say) should I have to handle pork or alcohol products as a Tesco check-out assistant? I'm a muslim! Why (they say) should I have to watch you eat during the day when I cannot due to Ramadan? I'm a muslim! Why (they say) should I have to remove my face covering when teaching in schools? I'm a muslim! The examples are endless. Halal food, take the Christ out of Christmas etc etc. We have to accommodate their lifestyle choices and they expect it to be done as a token of religious tolerance. What utter rubbish!
The great pity is, however, that our leaders cannot see Islamisation for what it is - a regime, a lifestyle, a social, political and justice system which seeks to make us all submit to their way of life.

Are you seriously trying to tell us that there are evil Christians out there who are killing innocent people or are you referring to the Crusades - 600 years ago in the Dark Ages?
The elephant in the room is Islam.

That's not what I said.
Can you tell me when and where was the last Christian terrorist attack? The last Christian suicide bomber? The last Christian plane hijack?
No?
When was the last time a Christian drove a truck or a van into an innocent crowd of people? When was the last time a Christian tried to behead a soldier or a policeman?
Young male Islamic fundamentalists are doing these things every day in the West, but our politicians keep insisting that not all Muslims are terrorists. Therefore we ALL get searched before getting on a plane - the young, the old, women, babies, the disabled. All because we must not target the perpetrators for fear of offending their 'religion'. Political correctness gone crazy. Let's not offend anyone. Let's say that ALL religions are equally responsible for these atrocities.
Just who has their head in the sand WHL?

WHL,
There are many evil people in this world - that is a given. Whether they are Muslim, Christian, Hindu or Buddhists, they are evil and should be castigated and condemned.
However, unlike all other religions, Islam requires total submission to a way of life by both its followers and by the infidels. Until there is that final submission there will be holy war (Jihad). The Q'uran requires it, and requires all muslims to either fight in order to make infidels submit or to pay towards the fight. Any muslim that does not do one of these two things is condemned as a hypocrite and is told by the Q'uran that they will go to hell.
Christianity teaches love and has two commandments: Love God and love your neighbour as yourself.
How can you possibly equate this with Islam?

A couple of interesting articles here to read and digest:
This article was first published May 1, 2013.
Terrorism Is a Real Threat … But the Threat to the U.S. from Muslim Terrorists Has Been Exaggerated
An FBI report shows that only a small percentage of terrorist attacks carried out on U.S. soil between 1980 and 2005 were perpetrated by Muslims.

"Islamisation for what it is - a regime, a lifestyle, a social, political and justice system which seeks to make us all submit to their way of life."
You are correct in much of what you say, but to deny it's a religion is nonsense. Every other religion recognises Islam as a religion. That's pretty much endorsement.
In terms of Islamisation, the political, justice, social and lifestyle... It is true and I think it's because Islam is a relatively newly modernised religion. It hasn't had the culture Christianity has had for centuries, to become modern and to adjust old beliefs into modern interpretations.
Christianity (largely catholicism) of the dark and middle ages, was also very much an entire lifestyle system. Don't eat meat on Fridays. Fast on Holy Days. Fast from night before, before receiving communion. Women must cover their heads in Church. In many Christian cultures, one son should become a Priest. Large parts of earnings went to the Church. You fought for the Pope and Church. You killed non-believers, in the name of the Church, within wars. God was vengeful and sins very much a large part of life.
So, we have a gruesome past, left behind many centuries ago. However, some Christian sects still control many aspects of lifestyle, like Quakers. Luckily, in a peaceful, loving way.
