At one stage I was reading quite a few articles about how many cremation urns were being ordered by a few of the funeral homes in China - 3,750 in one week on one case - and also the previous week. Likewise there were aerial shots of a huge 'cemetery' in Iran and it showed how many extra graves appeared in a matter of days (100+).

"The Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation in Seattle predicts 66,000 UK deaths from Covid19 by August, with a peak of nearly 3,000 a day and that the UK will be the country worst hit in Europe, with more than 40% of total deaths."

https://www.euractiv.com/section/corona ... forecasts/

Now, like any prediction, we have to take with a little salt, until more predict the same, but very worrying indeed! Neil Ferguson says it is double his prediction! Which at 33,000 would be a catastrophe in itself!

Maybe they know that the head of the forensic department in Hamburg said he still has to see a single case in their post mortems which affected someone who hadn´t suffered from preexisting conditions and that therefore he thinks the lockdown is over the top. Be aware though that he considered smoking and being obese a preexisting condition and that if you include hypertension probably more than 50% of the population would have preexisting conditions even among those below 65 years of age.

My Consultant friend tells me that they see a lot of myocarditis and cardiac failure in Covid patients - many who didn't know they had any heart problems.

While I agree that most of the population are low-risk, they integrate with high-risk people, when social exclusion isn't implemented.

I'd also bet that people in Germany are generally much fitter than the UK and we know they have far, far better health services, plus far better testing, identifying clusters and taking action on them.

Out shopping this morning, kitted up in mask and double gloved only to find a number of Brits with no gloves or masks. It makes you think why bother.

Jim B - at the end of the day it is your health and safety, in fact your life and those dearest to you that counts, so continue to take whatever protective measures you feel comfortable with............. and keep a distance from those who do not adhere to your principles.

Gloves don´t provide a benefit compared to washing/disinfecting your hands. If anything they increase it.

Ah ha... So I am not the only one that wonders why the medical profession wear gloves, and they are provided at many supermarkets for the public to use ..

Not wishing to appear rude but I prefer to take the advice of the WHO rather than a layman. I do actually use sanitizer before entering a shop and also when leaving and on arriving home I spray my shoes and leave them outside. After unpacking our purchases we get changed and wash our hands with soapy water.
It may appear over the top to you personally but it's worth the effort for the wellbeing of my family.

The gloves are bad shtick is based on the assumption that people put gloves on before they leave the house, do all their shopping, then take them off again when they get home.

This is indeed, a bad idea. Apparently, latex is a better covid transmitting surface than skin.

However, that is not how people wear gloves during the crisis. People put them on when they enter each supermarket, and take them off when they leave.

Common sense as well as podcasts by the head virologists of the Charité in Berlin and the University of Halle. As they´re both in German and stretch over many hours I won´t link it here. But I posted a summary of my reasoning already in another thread:
jeba wrote: Sat Apr 18, 2020 12:02 pm You only have to touch anything already contaminated (e. g. the handle of your trolley, a pack of noodles...) because it was exposed to infectious droplets another customer or an employee exhaled. If you didn´t think there was a risk of that you wouldn´t wear gloves in the first place.
