I am concerned that few members have expressed a view on this topic, why is this?
My concern is based on the fact that whatever happens will affect all members
They are probably not confident enough to post, or scared to.
Have no fears - we are all nice people on here, honest.
Well most of the time

Maggie B - Come on now Maggie I would pit you against anyone who tried to bully you and I am sure as hell convinced you can more than hold your own in any debate so dont be frit - we need you in the kitchen (not literally of course) and that goes for those others who understandably at times feel they do not wish to participate.

Ha ha Rita, are you insinuating I may be somewhat of a 'rottweiler?'

Dominic, the sitting room would suit me just fine but we all know those guys in the kitchen could not OR WOULD NOT stay out.

That's an easy one. I have created a group called "The Naughty Step". I set permissions so that anybody in the naughty step group would not be able to see the "Learning Greek" forum. I chose that one as a test. Anyway, I made myself a member of that group, and all of a sudden I was unable to even see the "Learning Greek" group.
All I need to to is create Politics Lite, or whatever I call it, and set it so that anybody in the naughty step group won't be able to see it. Then, if anybody does overstep the line, they will be put in the naughty step group, and thus be unable to see the Politics Lite group. They will still be able to post in the other Politics group however.
It sounds more complicated than it is!
Sounds good to me

I honestly do not think the politics head shood be watered down, it s a personnel chose to get involved in a thread, and yes discussion can be heated But that is the nature of the beast. Politics should evoke a degree of passion, it is a passionate abject that b its nature divides opinion sharply, and so it should. Some might say that Mrs May bullies Mr Corbyn at PMQ's, but that is called debate and yes it does get personal, but it certainly is not bullying. Just because some disagrees with your opinion, and sometimes that may be robustly, does not mean you are being bullied, sometimes people are too quick to pull that card..and I have certainly seen no evidence of it on this site and long may it continue.
Well said sir!

Completely wrong!
It is evident that many people do not post in the Politics section, for whatever reason.
If a new politics section, Politics for Moderates, is set up, then some of those "missing" members may well post.
End result is more people posting about politics, in one section or another.

Morning All,
I guess it boils down to a perception of what bullying is, I have noticed that some individuals have a habit of pursuing anyone they disagree with as a pack by ' shouting ' them down / ridiculing them.
If the same behaviour happened in a playground, it would be seen for what it is, IMO the bullying pack mentality.
Politics will always be an emotive subject but I don't believe separating the differing factions will result in anything other than a pretty tame perhaps even boring discussion.
I think the guilty parties...& they know who they are

need to tone it down a bit & if they aren't capable of doing so then send them to the pit where they can growl amongst themselves & slap each other on the back

Cogs, if people dont post in the Politics section there won't be a tame discussion or a boring discussion ... there will be no discussion.
Surely a tame or boring discussion in a Politics for Moderates section is better than no discussion at all. And in any event, what is considered tame or moderate to one person isn't necessarily a universal view.

Well said! Politics by it's very nature is divisive, and people do feel very passionately about it. Perhaps we ought to have a place where everyone agrees with everyone else, how boring! Rather like every child at school coming first in a race so nobody feels excluded, inadequate, hurt feelings etc. etc. Some of the postings in politics I find distasteful, annoying, wrong, and many other things, so I either post or ignore.

Hi Keving,
I agree, that's why I think it would be pretty pointless separating any political debate, it just needs to be monitored so that the few that tend to take it too far are kept in check, nobody likes a bully

Right, having thought about this, I have decided to go ahead and create a Politics for Moderates section.
I will also create two additional user groups.
"No Politics Please!"
"No Politics for Moderates Please!"
If you don't like the idea of the Politics for Moderates section, then join this group. You will then not be able to even see it. Ditto for the other group.
So if you hate politics completely, join both groups.
The above two groups are controlled by you the users. The other group "The naughty step" I control myself.+
In addition, the word filter for "Re
m
oaners" will be removed on the proviso that its usage stays in the politics section. The hilarious Grump filter will also go, unless he specifically wants it to stay as a badge of honour.

I'm confused but do as you wish...
I don't want to be in the 'politics for snowflakes' section but I suppose you guessed that!
I'd be interested to see how interesting and vibrant it is tho so I'd prefer to be able to look in on it and promise not to post in there...

If you don't want to be in it, all you will have to do is join the "No Politics for Moderates Please" group, then it will be invisible. I have not created it yet so don't go looking for it.
Alternatively, just post in it in your normal style and you will soon be on the naughty step.
But if you just want to read without posting, you don't have to do anything.
I should add, the Politics section that is already here will not be changing. That will be as it always has been.
I should also add, that ALL mainstream political views will be welcome in the moderates section, from socialism to UKIP. The forum is not for liberals, it is for any person who want to discuss politics in a calmer, less confrontational fashion.

I am happy for Dominics solution to the political posting controversy to go ahead. At least those who don't like discussion of political topics won't be offended as they have opted to be excluded from it.
However, I object to the calling of names for those who voted to Remain. Why should we be branded as Remoaners, just because we don't wholeheartedly agree with the Brexit policy?
The United Kingdom is a democratic country, so people should be able to accept a differing view from their own. Lets also stop name calling ie Chinese are called Chinese not as one member wrote. Lets respect the many nationalities who live and visit here.

I agree with you Kili01. In the politics for moderates section, neither term will be allowed. You will be expected to discuss politics without insulting people.
And by you I mean everybody, not you specifically.
