Don't remember where I read it, but it was a very clear message.

Found it again.

It was yesterday in PafosPress in Greek.

So translated it says closed from today till December 8th.

But don't try to get it translated with Google as it leads only to confusion....

The article says the road will be closed on/from December 8...........

Google Translate the whole paragraph:

"In Pafos province, work will be carried out from December 8, 2017 on Apostolou Pavlou Avenue, from the height of the circular hub of this avenue and the Tombs of the Kings Avenue to the catacomb of Agia Solomontia, during which time road traffic is cut off."

If you just translate the sentence to the date, you get an entirely different meaning:

"In the province of Paphos, work will be carried out from today until December 8....."

Obviously there's a hell of a difference between "from" and "until"!

Are there diversions signposted ??

That will cause chaos! But there are alternative routes to get to the harbour area, but whether they will actually sign diversions is another matter, they didn't in the old town.. At least we can plan for the road being closed as we know about it!

I wonder what route the buses are taking from TOTK to the Harbour Bus Station ?

From the Mall they are turning left, and then right at the lights next to the large Church, so the right hand lane of the carriageway is congested, but moving!!!!! Stay on the left, and approach Kato Paphos from the triangle, much easier.

When going to K. Paphos today, from the Mall instead of turning right at the big church, I carried on until the Limnaria exit turning right there. Very quiet.

Coming back, I drove to the roundabout at the Mall, managing to look to the Left briefly at Agios Pavlos Rd. The new walkway is now spanning across the whole road to the harbour. It looks to be coming down again at the back of the Roman Hotel. But the angle at which it is descending does look rather like a roller coaster at present! The whole structure looks quite precarious to me being quite high off the ground. Couldn't photograph it though as was driving at the time!!

I took a lot of pics of the amphitheatre, various baths, St paul's pillar, the catacombs, the walkway and a hedgehog today. I will do one or two blogs with them next week, but I want to do a little blog tomorrow morning on the mall Christmas lights, first.

Thought I would venture down to the walkway this morning to see how it was progressing down the Roman Hotel side of the road going down to the harbour. Here are some photos of what I found!

The first one is a view immediately after the walkway passes over the main road. Incidentally, the main road from here is being replaced with large slabs (circa 12"x12"x3")!

The second one shows the walkway descending down past the side of the Roman Hotel

The next 2 are taken from inside the Archaeological Site and show the walkway following the old side road which has now gone completely! The walkway still needs 1 or 2 more sections to be fitted before completion and landing.

This last photo was taken from the same hill top position as Pic 4 but shows the view you get when looking out to the Med with the lighthouse on your left

Good photos Shane! The new walkway looks even more suitable as the base for a light rail! Wonder if it will be wide enough to accomodate 2 persons passing each other?

Great photos - but it still doesn't resemble a walkway.
Looking forward to the finished project!

I'm looking very forward to (hopefully) walking along it in the second half of February!

But looking at Shane's excellent photos taken yesterday, 3rd December 17, and his comment about the whole main road below the walkway being resurfaced with 300x300x75mm slabs, I would say that the contractor's schedule for re-opening the main road to traffic on 8th December is wishful thinking!

Given that you have no idea how much of the main road has been done, how on Earth can you say that?

From the shots I printed on my blog, they had already done a fair amount. And (Photolady) if you want to know what it will look like, go to the end of the blog and see the artist's impressions.

My only hope is that they don't allow segways. I would also be curious what would happen if two wheelchairs met in the middle.

The only thing that is sure is that the whole project must be costing lots of dosh. Hope that it will be worth it!! I still find it hard to believe that many people would choose to walk on it. It doesn't look user friendly, high above the ground, narrow and with no exits. It looks as if once you get onto it you would have to walk the whole distance! No stopping off at the Mall enroute for a coffee!

It's hardly a kendal mint-cake requiring distance. Though I imagine it could get very warm in the summer.

Is the walkway part of the Archaeological park though? What I mean is, will you have to pay to use it? If it plonks you in the middle of the park then I would assume so. And will it be one-way, ie, you can only enter from the park end, or will you be able to pay on the hill end?

From what I could see on Sunday, the walkway will land outside the existing boundaries of the park as it is dropping down over where the old side road (called Agiou Lambrianou St) used to be. In Pic 3 you can see that the walkway is on the right of the existing fencing & turnstiles of the park so unless they reposition all these & move the boundary lines then it will not be accessible from inside the park!

Regarding wheelchair access, you will have a steady 200 or 300mt climb from the Roman Hotel side so it will certainly keep you fit but I don't know how you would exit or enter from the other side, Fabrica Hill!

Lots of questions but I guess we will just have to wait & see how it ends up!

Have you got you figures right here Shane. The Roman Hotel is roughly 20mts above sea level. Are you saying the walkway is 10 or more times higher than that ??
