I do not understand...Some say you have to register to see a GP before 0800hrs. The above post-Memory Man goes at 10.30hrs and is seen at reception , gets to see a GP. What are the FACTS. I really do want to know as now I am confused.
Morning
The registration usually opens at 6am I have never been given number 1 even then regarding the GP ticket, you will be lucky if after 10am you are allowed to see your
usual GP as their patient book will be full, about 30 patients a day?, I have always gone early as I never lay in bed past 5am and the five minute drive down at that time of the day is clear of traffic, the car park is empty so I can park the car reasonable safely, (the wife had her car bumped in the hospital car park recently).
Usually, as this week, I am back home before 9am and that suits me and I will continue to be early to register, so Lincoln do not be confused, if the GP has a full patient book they will not let you see your desired GP, and a good reason to get there as early as you can, as I walked through the registration area at 8.30am it was horrendous queue's to see a doctor, I'll take my chance as early as possible, sure you can go later and I have tried this it was not successful for me.
All in all the Hospital service is good just that at the moment lack of GPs could be problematic for many here. I used to have private health insurance coverage and to be truthful if I could afford private health insurance I would, but as you age and certain medical conditions this becomes for many very expensive, although for fast-tracking we often pay for private Hospital treatment from our savings, for instance, MRI and other Scanning for problems, eye problems etc.
I now pay for blood testing at a local center, why? well, the General lost two of my recent blood test results. We get a full panel of test done very reasonably, no cattle market push and shoving, get the results the next day, they look at them and advise you of the results and you can then give them to a doctor of your choice. We will continue doing this.
Good health all.

It might just be that the period around 8 to 9 is very busy. This would make sense, as people who were popping in on the way to work would want to get treated then. This would explain why people are reporting that it is quieter later.
Lincoln, if you want the full FACTS, you will have to sit in Hospital Reception and do a full study of patient numbers, spread over the course of a working day. There would be plenty of scope for graphs with the data, too. Until then, you will have to be content with partial data collected by people who visit the hospital at different times.
Personally, I would follow Jim's advice, and get there early. But it depends on how much you like your lie-in.

I've never been to Paphos General, should the need arise for tests, is it the same scenario at Polis? - we are more less half way between, or should i should stick to going private!
It is many years since I have used Polis Hospital Ian. They used to use the same sort of number system, but you took the number (on a card) out of a box on the counter..
Things may have changed now, maybe someone can update about Polis Hospital Services..

Agree Dom but if they go at that time before work then they will be very late that is for sure, my next door neighbor went at 10am it was so bad the queue she went upstairs to see the registrar to get her repeat prescriptions, (she is a pensioner) and they did write her a new prescription, as posted the lack of GPs is the cause of this, I hope it soon sorts itself out. I do know my ex GP has left to go to pastures new and several others seem to have done the same.

Last time we went, to see a particular Doctor we were No 27, the numbers went up to 33. An elderly Cypriot man chewed the Doctor out because he had waited nearly 3 hours for a repeat prescription. When it was our turn, he came out of his office and asked who were there for prescriptions. All except one, and us! He took them all and we had another half hour plus wait! Over 2.5 hours. It has never been this bad! Not looking forward to next week when we have to go back again. Is NH S any better though? I understand that you are lucky if you get an appointment on the day you are ill!

JimX Maybe you missed Memory Man's post Yesterday....
" Both of us at General today.
Arrived about 10.30am, got parked easily at front
car park.
Only about 6 - 8 in front of us at registration.
Spent about 10 -15 mins with doctor, who wrote
repeat prescripts.
Collected the prescripts from pharmacy, and left car park about 11.15am."
So it would seem that going between 10-30am to 11-15am was just fine, for both him and his wife..

Not sure when the last time Darrow was in the UK but as regards prescriptions it is all on line now. Log on to your EMIS patient account tick the medications required box then collect the medication from the pharmacist the next day..........easy peasy !!!
Trev yes I can read!!
I did not miss that post but this is not my experience, maybe he was very lucky but as you can see it is not just how I view the situation.
Lloyd if that was the case you would go straight to Accident & emergency, would you not?, the situation is not good I can tell you, maybe one member was very lucky but ask those who at 8.30am were in the registration queue at the back of hundreds of waiting just to register.
I think what needs to be done is get an Admin at the Hospital to do prescriptions only if you do not need to see a GP about any further problems, they tried this before and it worked well, but I have an idea why they stopped doing this, if there is almost certainly a lack of GPs then something will have to give, see darrows post above, this cannot continue I feel.

I am glad you can read Jim.. It may not be Your individual experience but many other members find the queues less later in in the morning... That is their experience as reported, and confirmed by myself and my wife..

Trev I have tried the later time to see a GP several times, once the number got too high past the Doc's number, I do not need to lay in bed as I said, but this weeks hospital crowd was very large much larger earlier than the last time I visited, again as I said I was told this was due to a lack of GP's available, take this any way you wish, I hope that crowd will not be there the next time you visit. If you go late as you say you do be warned ticket numbers maybe over the Doc's prescribed amount of patients. I am talking GP's Trev not a specialist, I do not need to see them thankfully.
Oddly the Pharmacy was empty, but the queue for registration was out the door at 8.30pm. The flu jab surgery had about three people waiting I was in and out of there in a few minutes.
Trev you were not there so you really are just being a little argumentative, read Darrow post.

I find it much easier and a more pleasant experience to have my blood tests done at Olympia Pavlides lab down the road, expert blood taking, without inflicting massive bruises on my arm while being stabbed by a clumsily aimed needle... as happened to me once at the General. Also no queuing involved either!Gen hosp doctors and private clinics alike accept their blood test results. Results are usually available for pick up same day or the next. Not expensive either.

Private blood testing is fine if the cost is reasonable.. My wife uses a private plce but sometimes the cost is around €150... Now that is a lot of money to us.
But I have read a post today where someone is asking about blood tests at the general. They usually go to a private place, but the cost will be over €500
So if you have the money to spend then private is just fine

Just checked the new charges re blood tests , maximum 10 € no matter how many tests are ticked . Which I think is how much it is now ?
Good news for those of us who can not afford the private route .

Rumour Control has it that you can only register at the General Hospital between the hours of 06.00 to 08.00hrs to see a GP. However further rumours have it that registration opens again at 14.00 to 16.00hrs. Is this correct? If so and you register in the afternoon are the GPs in attendance in the afternoon?
