Michel Barnier has said he is “strongly opposed” to the prime minister’s Chequers proposals on future trade, as he advised European car manufacturers that they will have to use fewer British-made parts after Brexit.

Another bit quoting from the FAZ article. Today.
Well I must admit a lot has happened in the 7 minutes that I posted and you responded …………………

And "advising European car manufacturers" to use fewer British-made parts is quite frankfuly laughable but actually I think you are being serious and really believe the tosh you are writing!

Happy in Cyprus wrote: Sun Sep 02, 2018 5:38 pm And he's absolutely bloomin' right! This has been the EU position all along...nothing has changed.

Nope your view hasn't changed ………… still glass half empty!

Free movement of goods and services goes hand-in-hand with the free movement of EU peoples. This has been adopted by, and has worked for, EU member states over many decades.

Err why does this have to be the case in future, many EU states want free movement of goods and services but not people!

Just why should the UK - which has chosen to leave the EU - expect to cherry pick the bits it likes and say 'no thanks' to the bits it doesn't? Sheer pig-headed arrogance and lunacy.

Because in a negotiation there are 2 sides to be bargained for or have you forgotten that?

Many influential people have called for a second referendum to give peeps one last chance to confirm whether or not they want to stay in the EU. But stupid May does not recognise the opportunity this represents (for any change of heart of behalf of the British people) and stubbornly says "no, we won't do it".

Dream on, we had a democratic vote and at the end of the day how many referendum results will satisfy you until you get the result you want?

And so the circus goes on. Only a matter of time before she is turfed out by BJ...and then things could turn nasty very quickly.

Yep I agree but it's time to get behind the "circus" and get the best deal we can before we leave the EU which is going to happen next year!

The outcome from negotiations is far from assured.

That depends on the EU …………… ?

Writing? I was actually quoting.
Barnier in the FAZ.
Laughable to you, but not maybe to the 200,000 or so workers involved in the auto industry in the UK.
And their families.

I take your point, however I expected it to be rather lower than it is now.
Nevertheless, I expect it to reach an all-time-low (over a two year period - so not just a "little spike" - ) against the euro very shortly.
Against the dollar - well - say no more. Peanuts.

Just some quick questions HiC.........
Should there be a second referendum, will you vote this time?
And if the outcome is still leave, will those who voted out still be mindless, idiotic drooling morons as your comments since June 2016 seem to imply?
And will you stop commenting if you do not vote and Brexit will still happen?
Or will you not vote again as you have left the UK forever, yet rubbish those who vote to leave because your future is in Cyprus and the EU?

Save your ire for this idiot:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-45392105

Boris Johnson has savaged Theresa May's Brexit plans, saying they would leave the UK with "diddly squat" after the negotiations and hand the EU "victory".

The former foreign secretary used his Daily Telegraph column to say the PM's Chequers deal - which led him to resign in July - "means disaster" for Britain.

It comes as the EU's chief negotiator, Michel Barnier, says he is "strongly" opposed to parts of the plan.

The UK government insisted its Brexit strategy was "precise and pragmatic".

The so-called Chequers deal was agreed by cabinet at the prime minister's country residence as the UK's preferred way forward in negotiations with Brussels.

blah blah blah

Why is nobody mentioning Gibraltar (where 96% voted remain btw)? How should they cope with border controls in case of no deal?

HiC,
Answering your questions
1...I personally voted leave because it is my belief we were lied to in 1971 about a European Economic free trade area not a Union of countries under non elected rule. Also it is my firm belief that the Leave vote succeeded because many who were eligible to vote did not bother because
"We'll stay in anyway"
2...Apart from the Troubles the border between Northern Ireland and the Republic was basically open anyway. Every time I visit Eire I go through Irish passport control, yet on returning to England I bypass UK immigration as the return is classed as domestic. Why the politicos cannot keep this type of status quo is, frankly, beyond my ken.
3....Yes, of course I am concerned about the future. But not terribly concerned.Customs tariffs may - may - be increased but I really cannot see businesses stopping trading because we are no longer members. I was in air freight for my working life, and every penny in customs duty from abroad went into the coffers of the EU, so this will be a saving for us and a loss for the EU. Once dopey drawers in No 10 has paid out the billions she didn't have to offer, of course😁. We will still import shed loads from the rest of the world, and I really cannot see European companies never trading with the UK ever again.
Finally, if Mr Corbyn ever gets in then I will concur that the UK is a nation of total nincompoops and will probably move out. Back to safe, secure EUville, like I did when Bliar got elected the first time. At least the weather will be nice. 😂

If the same open border situastion existed, then any EU migrant could enter the UK, with no checks.

Interesting, today’s Independent has 2.5m people who voted Leave, would now vote Remain. That is a large swing.....

You're beginning to sound like Dominic's political statement -
Neither side knows what the end ....
Nobody else knows what the end result will be either.
Now, accept the above...

The pound stands today at 1.11. I would humbly suggest that a few million people working in the financial services sector have a very good idea what the "end result will be". Besides, isn't that what political discussion is partly about - the future?

I would further suggest and request that you post the GOOD news about Brexit.
Post all the good things that are happening.

Maybe - but - I have suddenly thought of one thing.
St Teresa has made a trade agreement with Lesotho! Yes. Wow. Let us rejoice and be glad. Haec Dies.
Apparently it's exactly the same as what is already in place with the UK as part of the EU. So no change. I guess we have to be glad about that!
Incidentally - Lesotho - about the size of West Yorkshire.

Leaving aside the fake news and the non-news, the only consequential fact is that the UK leaves the EU in 206 days 4 hours and forty minutes.
Can’t wait.

I am still bemused that Brits living in the EU, want Britain to leave the EU..... Turkeys voting for Xmas comes to mind..... A very good chance your lives will be MUCH more difficult post Brexit..... Zero indications they will be better..... but hey ho.... Rule Britainnia, Sovereign again, Imperial, Rebuild the Empire..... put the Great back in Britain..... all the usual male bovine excrement....

Funny how all this Nationalistic nonsense is ok when it comes to Brexit, but terrible when voiced in Scotland.....

Really, you think Dominic made a political statement!

Irrespective, "a few million people working in the financial services sector" have no idea what the end result will be as it's an ever evolving picture, apart from the fact that they will try to make as much money as possible out of the situation because that's their job!

And I still maintain do you or anybody else know that things will be better or worse when everything settles down, I sure don't but maybe you have a better line to god! ;)

"Nobody knows", Shane? Everyone can see what's happening with regard to Brexit. It's a car crash in slow motion! Don't you read the papers or watch TV?
Oh HiC, you should know me better by now!

And please stop confusing me with one of those Brexit voters as I've told you on numerous occasions I voted remain! ;)

I must admit HiC you are an enigma, you didn't vote yet you are vociferous in your defence of your EU rights, you have a glass empty attitude to most things really, & you seem to believe everything you read in the newspapers or tv because you quote them at every opportunity!

A car crash in slow motion …………… get real!

The UK and the EU will finalise a trade agreement (which in my books is called a negotiation) because neither side can afford the alternative but you seem to relish the opposite view!
