As I said in my first post “ I assume these are fairly new to Cyprus “ And therefore you will probably have not had any crime of this type – But no doubt you will in the future, If you cannot accept that this crime exists with all of the worldwide evidence that is available to you via the internet, With major organisations claiming contactless fraud offences mounting to millions of pounds then you have a real problem, What will it take to convince you ? You are the original Ostrich – Just because you personally have no first hand experience of this does not mean it is not there, I would imagine that you also believe the earth is flat.

How do you know that it is contactless fraud, anyway? How can you distinguish that from, say, regular card skimming machines, or good old fashioned online phishing?

I personally don’t know for certain but as it is classified as a totally different crime to skimming or phishing and is called CONTACTLESS FRAUD I suspect there is a reason for this and I have used these PDA’s and know how easy it is why would you endure extra hassle when the info you need is collected discretely in seconds. Skimming is now old hat and risky, Phishing is time consuming and very risky these days – I would certainly use a PDA – Apart from that you believe what you want to believe --- I believe it happens it is up to the individual to decide, But the evidence is overwhelming – Its just like CD,s and DVD,s No body uses them any more its now the age of memory sticks and hard drives unless you are a dinosaur

HIC - if you only check your accounts once a month surely numerous transactions could have gone through of which you are unaware??
I'm trying to work out what I should do amongst the myriad ideas here to protect my dosh, not that there's much in there after paying €850 for clutch and immobiliser today

I think the text message when we (or someone else) use our BoC card is a great innovation, and one we hope our UK bank introduces sometime soon and, for the little it costs to protect the cards in my pocket, or my wife's handbag, it is money well spent. However, since the text system was introduced I periodically receive notifications about withdrawals from someone else's account, in Nicosia, despite going into our bank to tell them about it.

I give in....Because if it's not in HICs world it simply does not exist....your view is the only view, you are beginning to remind me of another man who cannot accept anyone else's point of view...whoever is skimming your card is not making a payment...he/she is cloaning your card....the payment bit comes later....and yes technology will improve to combat this crime....a bit like technology improves in other areas....oh but of course in some areas you have decided that the criminal will always be one step ahead....

Do make your mind up...
HiC is never wrong!!!!

I gave in much earlier – There are non so blind as those who cannot see
Hudswell you got the point exactly this is not about skimming with a point of sale machine at least not in the north east of England – It is about zapping just one card while walking past someone and then re zapping it onto half a dozen blanks and handing them to your mates to make lots of £30 purchases – then throwing them away and get the next ostrich.
