Some of the packaging is needed and I can't see an alternative. I am thinking of cans of beer sometimes bought in 6's or in 24's They need something to hold them all together.

Why do they need something to hold them all together? If I buy 6 bottles of diet coke or water, I put them in a bag.

And I suppose one could do that if you bought 24 cans of beer.
But loose cans of beer stacked on a pallet 8 layers high would be a bit unsafe..
Hence the packaging that is used today.. Some beers and soft drinks are in cardboard boxes. maybe all cans should be packaged this way

I still think what is happening is treating the symptom and not the cause. We should be using less packaging or banning the production of non-biodegradable plastics.
