When we came here the ambulances were like those from "the Royal" on TV! Drivers in mucky civilian clothes who didn't have any medical skills. However the last few years they have modern ambulances with trained paramedics, all down to EU funding. We should look at this with an open mind. Things have moved on in the hospital transport area .

Are you sure they have trained Paramedics or a nurse from A&E.. Just asking..

Something of a hornet's nest ... in any event I returned to Polis Hospital this morning for additional X-rays. I hobbled straight into the X-ray department and had my X-rays, and then saw the doctor from A & E who had seen me on Tuesday night. He looked at the X-rays, showed me I had two cracked ribs and prescribed some stronger painkillers. He told me it would take about twenty days to heal. All done and dusted in ten minutes.

As a postscript the crew on the ambulance were a driver and a nurse from A & E. How they managed to get me on a trolley easily and almost painlessly was little short of a miracle?

It doesn't worry me in the slightest, to be honest. If it is good enough for the local population, it's good enough for us.

Now, regarding previous shenanigans, I have no idea who Side A is, and who side B is. However, I have been accused by both sides of having vested interests in the other. I have vested interests in neither side. I wish both sides would in fact, bugger off, and have their argument elsewhere. You have both lost the argument. I don't want to hear about your squabbles any more.

You are quite right, in the event of major trauma or and RTC where you require an ambulance, you also need trained paramedics, not nurses.

Who says it is less than adequate? This thread was started by somebody praising the service. If that doesn't fit with your view of it fair enough. But clearly, the service received was praiseworthy.

In an RTA I would be thankful for whatever help I got. Presumably you would turn away the state ambulance and wait for your private one to arrive. Or would you give them a quick inspection first, to see if they passed muster?

Speaking from experience, I would rather hitch a ride on the nearest flat bed truck.
Much as I love this island, there is no escaping the fact that the State medical service is verging on Third World status. to pretend otherwise is not conducive to improvement.
Ask any Cypriot,if they can afford it, they go private.

I have, that is why I used the term "verging".

So why aren't you happy that somebody is reporting a good experience? Surely that is what you want to hear, isn't it?

So when you read reports about the service improving, surely you should applaud that rather than just run it down? And I know you will say that you already acknowledged that, but really, that's all that was required.

All very well paying for a high-class Private medical service IF you can afford it, many of us rely on the services offered by the local Health Service. Also remember if god forbid you were to have a serious accident you will be taken to the local General Hospital as they do have those facilities that the private section just does not have, I asked this at the Iasis private hospital, they answered the same question as to what could happen, by all means pay for your private cover but remember it will not always be affordable and you will still need the General come the need.

I welcome the increased service the General offers, but it still has a long way to go.

I see there is information on an App on that page. But clicking on it (on my iPad) does not bring up a link or the necessary information. Does anybody have any further information on this? It looks as if it could be very useful.

Each of us has to decide separately what to do. Just on of the main criteria affecting our choice of ambulance service was / is making sure the ambulance can find our address.
We live on the outskirts of a village. We are 500 mts from a main road. The track to our house has no street name... Our house has no number..
The private ambulance service we subscribe to know exactly where we are no matter who the driver is.
We do not have to go out to find them... Nor stand at the end of the drive to 'wave them down'..

This is one of the reasons we use them..
