Are you for real? Bit early too be drinking isnt it...go troll someone else
Actually in the context of the subject matter of this thread his question is reasonable.
The fact is that cars leaving the south, via SBA areas to go into the north, are NOT checked, neither are the occupants.
To enter the north the car must be insured, this requires the Registration Number and fee only.
Thus to take a stolen car into the north is a cynch!
Just how the cars are then disposed of, re-registered, or dismantled and by whome I have no idea. Maybe someone could enlighten us.
Hudswell raises a valid point - should there be checks by SBA both in and out of the south?
Amos.
He knows very well that the two crossing points in the East are policed by the SBA, so his question was not reasonable

Thiefs do not bother with documents, there are plenty of ways to get the car into the north without too many questions asked?

Going back to the original post, Flossie's car, do we know if the keys were in the ignition or was it locked up, when it was stolen?
Amos.

Flossie wrote: Wed Jan 03, 2018 1:50 pm As stated in my original post it was my friend's car NOT MINE and as far as I'm aware the keys weren't in the ignition and it was parked up outside her house (which is in a very quiet cul de sac!) with hardly any petrol in it besides 2 far newer more expensive cars!
Thanks for that. Noted it wasn't your car but a friend's.
Anyway, I wonder how they managed to start it?
Amos.

Flossie- please ask Fiona if the steering wheel lock still works when the key is removed from the ignition.

If it does, then this case becomes even more bizarre. It can only mean that someone has a duplicate set of keys for this vehicle...

If it doesn't, then it means the thieving scumbags forcibly sheared the steering lock. In which case, a s/h steering column is urgently required! The car could be a death trap to drive in that state, as there is every chance of the locking pin re-engaging itself at any moment!

AL :?

Actually I didn't...I have only Crossed crossed north via Nicosia and assumed that Cypriot authorities policed all the crossing points..I now know differently. And please don't judge my drinking habits on your own....you nasty little man.

Oh come on, WHL and Hudswell. It's a New Year, and PL stands out as a friendly board to be a member of, thanks to all of Dominic's hard work and imagination he's put into it over the past 12 months.

Why don't you two just PM each other, agree a truce, be friendly and polite towards each other in your posts, and let's all get on with life please?

Thanks- AL

I agree with your sentiments AL.I am just a visitor to this beautiful island & like many follow the site for any information that may be relevent to a holiday & always my first port of call. Residents have different issues but some strong words were used which in my mind tends to negate the positive benefits of this forum

Car theft is not high on Cyprus Smudge where would they go? it just is not true large car crime is a problem on the island, after all the CRV came back undamaged, this sounds a little fishy to me, in the UK I had a few motors stolen, they ALL came back worse for wear, there is no motor thefts here on CY of any magnitude, thankfully.

Slightly different problem regarding EU and the UK motor crime, many stolen cars end up here in containers, I believe the TV program I saw of this the Police from the UK managed to stop these container thefts, not all I guess but most of them. (UK drive on the left of course)

I still think the owner drove to Coral Bay, celebrated New Year's Eve and then did the decent thing by getting a taxi home, forgetting all about the car 😉

If you think car crime in Cyprus is anything close to what it is like in the UK then I would suggest that your spectacles have a rose-tinted view of the UK.

Begs the question of how they would beat the steering lock!
I wonder if the car in question (Flossie's friend's car) has a steering lock?

For WHL:
Wouldn't those methods cause damage?
An earlier post stated the car in question had no damage.

Yes as seen in Video, but Im sure they would have no problem fitting a new Wheel, steering lock..cant answer your second question, very odd one, if the steering lock was on then no car can be driven?
