Nobody was asking you to correct anybody. Just don't criticise other people who can be bothered to point out errors. I don't think the person who told me in a department store that it was pronounced "Yeroskipou" was being pedantic in the slightest.

Spelling is one thing. It can be Geroskipou or Yeroskipou. Giolou or Yiolou. Either variant is correct!

But when it comes to pronounciation, they are both Y as in Yes, not G as in Grape...

The local Citizens Service Centres in Cyprus seem a very good and helpful resource, directly linked to ROC Gov, locally. Fair play to them!

Unlike our Citizens Advice Bureaus here in UK, who basically tell you what expensive phone number to call and what form to request. Then you sit on the phone for half an hour or more in a queue, while HM Gov makes megga bucks out of millions of such calls each year...

Yes, that's an interesting conundrum, Lloyd. Despite DELTA being in the International Phonetic Alphabet for the letter 'D' - the Greeks don't actually have 'Dee' in their pronounciations!

So Tsada is pronounced 'Tsartha'. Look up a friend in the Cyta phone book (Greek) and the fun starts! I was looking for Doreen Herring up in Prodromi, between Polis and Latchi. After 2 hours of Sherlock Holmes investigation, I managed to solve the enigma, using lateral thinking...

First, the surname beginning H. Browsed through hire cars, looking for Hertz. Soon found they replaced the H with an X !! Next was the D in first name. As they don't actually have a 'dee' as such, they string N and T together, to make it sound as near to D as they can get, LOL!

It's all Greek to me. Only 23 letters in their alphabet, with O and S duped? They could do with a few more letters, I think... AL

Having said that it doesn't mean it will stick but I'll save the thread to favourites

24 letters Al, no duped s - it's just written differently whether it's in the middle or on the end of a word. Three 'i's though so still could do with a few more consonants!

I didn't know there was any citizens government service office in the Anavargos PO as I seldom go there. If it isn't full service that makes it even less likely to be useful. Why on earth site part of an office there?
I would far rather it were sited near the Govt Transport Office on Mesogi Rod. It isn't only useful to people living near there, but how about all those who live in the villages along the road to Polis and in Polis itself and Latchi? The Polis Rd is the main thoughfare for that part of the Paphos area, as well as for anyone travelling further east from Paphos to Limassol and beyond.
Whereas the road from Polis/Latchi to Peyia /Coral Bay really only serves that area.

There already is a full Citizens service centre in Polis.. Regarding the one in the Anavargos post office, I have used it for a replacement medical card.. Very handy for hospital patients..
