Reference the comments on cliques etc.
I have a friend who owned in Cyprus until around five years ago, told me that he'd visited the UKCA a couple of times with a view to applying for membership, however, he was met by that type of attitude and decided against returning completely. This is exactly the reason I don't join clubs locally.
In my area (in the UK) bowling clubs seem to be the worst. There seems to be a lot of inter club politics involved.
Not for me I'm afraid.
I've met many polite and decent people in and around Paphos over the last 15/16 years many of whom have become long term friends without joining a club.
