There are rules you sign up to when you moved over to Cyprus, one of those rules is that you have enough money coming in to take care of yourself, and you will not be a burden on the state, once you agree to those rules then they have every right to check that you are sticking to them
.
No, the bank doesn't. The immigration authority does. And only until you have achieved permanent residence status.
The Banks are instructed by the authorities to check on peoples financial incomings and out goings, as you don't even want a Cyprus Bank account , this doesn't really concern you?
Soon it won´t anymore. I had to have one because the seller of the plot I bought via an auction (a bank) insisted on payment from a Cypriot account in the T&Cs of the auction.

I received a phone call this morning from the Hellenic asking me for the forms that I hadn't filled in that they had sent me just one week ago. I gave the guy at the other end a hard time as I had to do some research to find that I had sent in the same forms on 15 October, less than four months ago – two different persons. I must admit that I detest this increasing bureaucracy that is being imposed upon us by the banks. However, at the very least, the banks should coordinate between their left hands in their right hands by having one person nominated per customer. This is the case with my Swiss bank where I have single interlocutor for everything.

Do you have experience of working in Financial Services Governance?
Not at all.

So can you tell us whether banks have to ask those intrusive questions and hassle you to show up in person just to show your passport again? And to block your account if you don't comply?

Was it such a Hussle for someone who dosnt have to take time off from work, to pop into the Bank for ten minutes, get over it, your not the only one who has had to go to the bank to update their data on you,, or do you want preferential treatment from the Banks?

Yes, it was. I had to leave my airconditioned home, drive there, stand in line in the sun before getting access, wear a mask, only to show them the same passport I had shown them already when I opened the account. And wondering for a week why I couldn't make payment because nobody bothered to tell me that my account had been frozen.
I want the same treatment I'm used to from my banks in Germany.

My heart bleeds for you, how sad is that, you having to leave your air condition home, here's a thought, if nothing comes close to what you have in Germany, is little backward Cyprus really the place for you.....

That´s indeed a question I´ve been asking myself as well more and more often recently.
