Word of mouth is still a good way to find somewhere. We know someone who decided where they wanted to be so initially took an apartment in that area and used it to network with everyone. It worked, a couple of months later they found what they wanted.

Apart from the warmth and the easy way of life, we both feel safe here which is tremendouly important to us. We bought a modest home 13 years ago, which we still love, in a village where we're still very happy, close enough to all the benefits that Paphos offers but far enough away to feel we're living in the countryside. We made sure we left sufficient savings to be able to make whatever choices we need to in our very old age (we're not young now!)

Agree with Lloyd here. Whether it's house sales or rentals, the locals seem to have their own system in play, which avoids long term rental agreements with the middleman agent, not to mention fat fees on a sale...

A local 3% introductory fee used to be the norm, for introducing a buyer to a seller, or a potential tenant to a landlord. Not sure if is still the case, but I'd be surprised if it wasn't. Which is why Lloyd's advice is invaluable here...

First find a village you love, then start asking around locally in tavernas, kiosks, coffee shops, etc for long term rental availability. It's the preferred way of doing biz there! Often, just driving around, you'll see signs on gates. It might be a "For Sale" sign, but there again, the owner might be happy to consider a long term rent, you never know until you try...

We dont go into the Kafenes, but ive found asking the barber/hairdresser is a good bet, they seem to know everyone's business

Another site you can try , Bazaraki . We found our current rental on it 2 years ago .

The beauty of it you can see the date the advert was placed , a lot of the properties on agents site have been there some time , and are often all ready rented out .

Just make sure you have a proper rental contract drawn up. It is a document you have to use often eg open a bank account, registering with the Immigration Department, rent a PO Box for your mail (if required).

Have you picked up a copy of the Paphos Post, the monthly paper free at supermarkets. It has a property section.

Also our local supermarket sometimes has ads for rentals in their window, so worth keeping an eye open when you are touring around.

Always give our guests earplugs, no barking dogs or cockerels around us but the pigeons are a bit vocal first thing. You do eventually tune them out and most afternoons are quiet and all I can hear are the songbirds, which is lovely.

Thought Paphos Post was out end of 3rd week each month, I picked up the April edition last Friday. It does say inside the paper free copies are usually gone by second week of the month and after that can be bought at kiosks for 70c.
I normally pick ours up from either Paps or Alphamega but this time I saw them in the Beauty Shop opposite Evangelismos Hospital.
