I agree about Saudi and Turkey, but they are US allies and tackling terror does involve their assistance- keep your friends close and your enemies closer and all that.

What these countries have in common is that they are pretty much war torn, they have probably lost much of the documentation regarding the background of their own nationals and are the major sources of the masses or people seeking asylum - that is presumably why Trump is treating them differently from Saudi and Turkey?

It s also the case that Obama had already pin pointed these stares for additional vetting, but no one was screaming blue murder about it when he did so

An American lady - didn't catch her name, sounded like......Harper Hayes but googled it, zilch. Anyway she was defending Trump re sacking the AG and it came up in the interview about countries such as Saudi not being banned and she said it was because they supplied all the information required to vet applicants, but the named countries couldn't or wouldn't.

How valid that is, who knows, and of course she was there to defend Trump and did say, quite vociferously, that she would have sacked Yates too.

It's interesting that people are protesting, quite vociferously about Trump, yet there are plenty of other rulers in the world who are far worse, yet nothing. Kim Jong Un anyone? Robert Mugabe anyone?

Hudswell wrote: Tue Jan 31, 2017 6:42 pm The interesting thing, or the gratifying thing is that we all live, even now, in relative safety, in societies that value its freedoms, are permitted freedom of speech, the right to protest and many other privileges they take as rights. The trouble is that some refuse to take responsibility or accept that those rights come at a price that they are not willing to accept, nor are they willing to give up their freedoms, so what to do? We sit back and we see our citizens terrorised, our societies overwealmed, our culture destroyed. We take action and we are demonised by those who cannot accept that some freedoms must be sacrificed in order to protect the majority, measures which sometimes do indeed the infringe "Human Rights" of others. The measures Trump has introduced are proportionate to the threat, although the implementation could have been handled better, Trump is not a politician, but when you actually analysis the scope of the action it is perhaps not as wide spread as the press would have us believe, Mo Farrow can indeed go back to the states. And statistics are a wonderful thing, and in the last ten years the US has been remarkably untouched, compared to Europe by terrorism, but I would suggest 9/11 is not something anyone would want to experience ever again, and sometimes when you see these protests you perhaps think that memories are short. In a way we in Europe are much more experienced, we have had terrorists in various guises murdering our citizens for years, another atrocity another Facebook page pledging this will never happen again, but when the authorities actually do something, put measures in place there is outrage. The OP mentioned Torture, water boarding, is it effective, I have no idea but again what to do? If a suspect potentially has information that could prevent a terrorist atrocity do you extract that information by interrogation, something most decent people would find abhorant? Or do you accept that respecting his/her human rights will possibly result in the deaths of innocents? Take the moral high ground, tell that to the family of the innocent. Perhaps the measures Directed by Trump are the lessor of two evils.
Good post...

I find it amusing that those who want to protest against Trump allowing people into the country (from a list created by Obama I believe) think the best way to do so is to... um... prevent his meeting someone in another country...

As that petition says: -
Trump is the leader of a free world and U.K. is a country that supports free speech and does not believe that people that appose our point of view should be gagged.
Perhaps we should change it to...
Trump is the leader of a free world and U.K. is a country that used to support free speech and did not believe that people that oppose our point of view should be gagged.

I understand what you are saying - however one of the issues is that it isn't proportionate to
the threat. If that had been the basis of it all then surely they would have included Saudi for
example. Quite clearly the majority of terrorist attacks in the US are not from outsiders coming
in to the country but home grown terrorists.

Rights and freedoms have been hard earned but they are not tools to be played with on the
back of populist speeches by any President.

At this stage the legal & constitutional basis of this order looks questionable and over coming
days and weeks it will become clearer whether this is in fact legal or not.

We go down a slippery slope if we start taking decisions like these based solely on nationality.

Cheers

Steve

I realised what you meant, didn't want to point out your typo as I figured I'd look petty and nit picking. Imho of course!

It's all about the oil. It's always been about the oil.
In the Middle East it is all about Oil, Water, and Religion.

To the locals perhaps. The West aren't really fussed about the water and religion.

or perhaps it's just annoyance at people who don't check their posts before rushing to submit them, don't care about a poor standard of spelling and grammar and refuse to use spellcheckers.

For Heaven's sake lighten up, everyone has a right to an opinion, even if their spelling/grammar isn't GCE A level standard.

There again if it gives others pleasure to point errors out, as I see it, it's time they got out more.
