Cyprus population up +13.4% in 2018, fourth highest rise in EU

In 2018, Cyprus had the fourth largest population increase in the EU 28 per 1000 residents according to figures issued by Eurostat on Wednesday, just before World Population Day (July 11).Cyprus also had the second lowest crude death rate in the EU, with births outnumbering births by 4.1 per thousand of the population....

This could explain the increase in house prices...

The original headline has been misquoted by several sources. It is actually 13.4 per 1000. Written as o/oo . So a 1.34 percent increase. 864,200 on January 1 2018, rising to 875,900 in 2019. Actually I get 1.0135 (so a 1.35% increase) for 8759/8642, but they've probably made some adjustment, or I've pressed a wrong button or something.

I wonder how many of those "new" residents are Brits who never saw a reason to bother with getting a MEU 1 but decided to register as residents now because of Brexit?

That does seem a lot more believable. :)
