Easy pickings and rich incomers, I would say..... along with holiday homes being let out so it's easy to spot the hire car on the drive and knowing the renters will be out for dinner most evenings or exploring during the daytime. Mobiles, laptops, tablets and all kinds of electronic devices left inside and cash, of course.

Add to this that not many folks trust the banks after the crisis and the "haircut" in 2013 - there's probably more cash and jewellery inside houses these days than ever before.

In reply to hamski we are in Mandria, a village near Paphos airport. Our development had a few break ins last year but I gather police caught the culprits.

From reading general posts on the forum seems to me burglaries happen in the main Paphos areas which is where the majority of expats settle and holidaymakers visit. Smaller villages away from the coast probably less so.

Compared to the UK, Paphos has much, much less crime.

And strangely enough, we've been back in UK now for just over 3yrs - and the only door that's locked is still our front door.

I would say that you can't compare countries.
That's because it really matters most,
on a day-to-day basis, the security level of the street that you live in.
I used to live in Leicester : it had very expensive areas where doctors lived in big houses with tennis courts, and no crime,
and then there were deprived council estates, with lots of violent and petty crime.

It is down to your specific location. There was a recent case in Peyia where the burglars broke into one home,
then went opposite to break into another.
hamski, are you related to an old Forum member on here, called Geoffrey by any chance? he was from Leicester, and your posts sound similar?
