Speed test

Post by Pinleyb93 »

Not up on technology, testing internet speed download is 10.8 ( ping whatever that is) is 25. Up load is 0.8 and jitter is 5. We are currently paying for 10 meg are these figures within an acceptable range? Thanks for any help.

10 mbps is what your paying for on downloads so thats ok, but 0.8mbs upload is bad, this means if you send any pictures for instance they may take hours to send as opposed to seconds to send.
I get 10mbps upload and 10mbps download.
I would contact your internet provider if I were you

Perfect but be warned that these figures are reasonably meaningless. By choosing the other end, you can get any figure you like. For example, two consecutive tests gave, with identical hardware

The difference? Choosing which server to test.

IOW, speed tests are only partly relative to your computer and equally relative to the server at the other end.

Most internet providers have ~0.8 Mbps for uploading. Don't worry about it unless you have to send massive files regularly. It's the download speed that is important for 99% of users.

I have always been advised from various providers that the upload speed should be very roughly 10% of the download speed.. i am currently getting 8mbps download and 0.9 mbps upload..
Sending pictures to the UK and getting a thumbs up (got it) reply takes between 1 and 2 seconds

Most DSL connections have an upload of about .8 Mbps, unless you pay extra for "enhanced" upload, which will increase to about 4Mbps.

Trev is correct in that ADSL is about 10% upload compared with download. For most customers, if not all, download is far more important than upload.

For example, mine at home is http://cyta.speedtestcustom.com/result/ ... 0b24cc8de3 tonight, with the TV on and 4 other devices. I set upload at about 20% of download for our fiber customers, and 10% for those still connected via copper.

The OP speed test results are fine given the package subscribed to.

Some providers offer the same upload and download at the same rate, however should the upload available get "maxed" out, the whole system can slow down, severely impacting on the download speeds, which is why we (and others) do not do this.
