Police have issued an alert about counterfeit euro banknotes in denominations of €5, €10, €20, and €50 circulating in the market.
In a statement, police said the fake notes are easily identifiable as they carry repeated serial numbers on their reverse side. The frequently encountered serial numbers by denomination are:
€5: MB6666888880
€10: MB6666888880, PA7497803159
€20: MB66688880, UC1366259581, SD2034368912, and PM125782181
€50: MB6666888880, FG9252070821, SE1206972964, and WR6493991575
With the holiday season approaching, the public is urged to carefully examine euro banknotes during cash transactions.
Police remind citizens that if in doubt, they can verify banknote security features by visiting the Central Bank of Cyprus or European Central Bank websites.
