I had a call yesterday from a man who said he was Cyprus police investigations department. It
was a visual call and he was in uniform. I didn't take much notice of the uniform except it was dark blue. He said it was to do with immigration and told me to show him my passport which I did. I might have been suspicious then if I hadn't got an application in with immigration although it did seem a bit strange that he seemed to be panicked and almost shouting. Of course it made you get on with it with no time to think. He asked a couple of other questions and then asked to see my bank card. I cut him off.
I then rang Paphos police to report it as I thought they wanted people to do this. They said it was a fraud and didn't seem particularly interested. Didn't ask any questions like the phone number or to pass on the picture of the man. Just warned me about giving out information unless I was sure about the website/email addresses that were asking me to provide information and said as they didn't have the bank card details it would be alright as they couldn't do anything with the passport number alone.
Keep alert everyone.
Another scam
Re: Another scam
If anybody phones for whatever reason asking to see your passport it is a scam. Never give information like that out. Never. Ever.
