US dollars - small denomination notes

Post by sunspot »

Does anyone know a forex bureau in Paphos that will change euros to dollars and give me some notes in small denominations, such as $1, $5 and $10 notes. I need this for travel, and Hellenic does not have small-denomination notes, even if you order them months in advance. Thanks.

The exchange business relies on currencies coming in, as there aren't many US citizens visiting it's doubtful that there will be many US dollars around especially small denomination notes. If you are going to the USA go to an ATM when you arrive at the airport.

You could always buy a cup of coffee on arrival with a $100 or $50 dollar bill

I've got some smaller US notes in the past from the cashier at Bank of Cyprus, though I can't remember how much was small - it was certainly a mix of large and small.

I've just ordered Rand from them and asked for smaller notes, and they got me ZAR 8000 in ZAR 200 notes, which is perfect.

BOC is my bank though.

I have a 50 $dollar note leftover over from a trip, it's of any help.

Thank you. Will try BOC. I am not going to the US but to South American countries where tips are given in USD. If BOC cannot help, I will have to wait till I arrive in S America.

Some years ago one could exchange also dollars in gift shops at the round inner yard behind Captain's Bistro,( Paphos sea front promenade).
As a lot of things are changing perhaps not anymore....

I think you still can change at the harbour. People are forever asking what the exchange rate down at the harbour is.

The trouble with the exchange places down by the harbour is that they always seem to have large denomination notes. At least for sterling to euro they do.
