Lebanon
Does the progressive problems in the middle east worry any of you. My daughter is coming over for 2 months in November and I'm quite worried.
Re: Lebanon
Israel had a war with Egypt, Syria and Jordan in 1967, Lebanon had a civil war in 1969, the Turks invaded Cyprus in 1974, and still illegally occupy the north. Syria has an on going civil war that started in 2011, add to that our war with Iraq and various other conflicts in the area. In fact there has always been wars and conflicts in this part of the world and there will always be. If your worried now why were you not worried before?

Only likely to escalate if the daily incursions continue, thus postponing the necessary negotiations to work towards a peaceful outcome.STELIOSBWFC wrote: ↑Fri Sep 20, 2024 10:55 am Different conflict this one has more potential than any other to escalate very quickly.

I'm not worried in the slightest. Not one iota.

Re: Lebanon
This is a very bad translation from a Pafos Press Article - but you can get the jist of it
EMERGENCY: An alarm was sounded - Civil Defense sirens sounded by WRONG
Civil Defense sirens suddenly sounded at 12:40 a.m. Saturday in the Kissonergas area of Paphos (perhaps in other areas as well) for about two minutes, causing fear and disturbance to the residents.
The reason, as PafosPress is informed, arose from a mistake according to information we received from the Police.
The Civil Defense is trying to identify the problem and fix it since a mistake upset the world since corresponding sirens only sound in cases of war.
Speed kills
Given what is happening in the wider Eastern Mediterranean region, the sound of sirens after midnight spread terror around the world and awakened memories of the past in the elders who lived through the invasion.
Tomorrow with the first light of day some must give answers...

Re: Lebanon
Given that nobody knew what they were for, what on Earth is the point of the sirens anyway?

Re: Lebanon
In the past it was to warn of possible Turkish air raids. I think their only use these days is to mark the anniversary of Turkish troops landing on the island.
Re: Lebanon
They usually sound them on the 15th and 18th of July to commemorate the invasion. I was told by some friends In Polis that for some reason they didn't work in July and have accidently gone off the other night, maybe they're set on a timer or something and it's become faulty.

Re: Lebanon
It's wait and see time - Iran has been warned today by the U.S not to even think about attacking Israel or else.
Re: Lebanon
You need to pay a bit more attention to the news.
Iran rained down a ton of bombs on Israel tonight. Israel have yet to respond, but they will, and it won't be pretty for the leaders of Iran.
Apparently red lights could be seen from Pissouri and Nicosia from the direction of Israel and Iran.

Forget Gazza this has been Israel's plan from day one, to smash Iran's nuclear program, and now they will get their chance.
Re: Lebanon
I may may wrong but all this is now this turning into talk of WW111.Mmmmm,i doubt myself that Putin would want to fight wars on TWO fronts.
