Sinti Monastery was built by the Venetians in the 16th century, and was active until 1927. After that it fell into disrepair before being renovated in the 1990s. Now it stands on the banks of the Xeros River in majestic isolation, and is well worth a visit. The easiest approach is from Pentalia. I love it here, the monastery and the surrounds, which ever way you approach it from.
The only people I've seen nearby are goatherds - so peaceful.
