We were unable to attend this one as we were signing all the documents to take over our Villa that day.

Yes- I back WHL on this one, please! As Dom (Admin) does NOT like fake news and/or defamatory statements on his PL board (and quite rightly, too!).

Can you either 'put up' your evidence, or delete your post (if it's spam) please?
Thanks- AL

It is indeed. And I note that according to Wikipedia..

Keo beer was awarded a Gold Medal by the Brewing Industry International Awards.[3]

In 2010 the appearance of the beer in a pornographic American film sparked a reaction by the largest shareholder in the company, the Orthodox Church of Cyprus. [4]

That latter point warrants some clarification I think:
______________________________________________________________

The graphic scenes reveal a man and a woman in a tavern briefly discussing the beer and its "Greek" origin before having intercourse. One scene shows the actress pouring the beer into her co-star’s mouth from a bottle clasped in her cleavage.

"We are always searching for ways to promote our products and Cyprus throughout the world, but this is certainly not a path we would have chosen," said Sozou.

"We were disappointed to discover that our beer was promoted in this pornographic film."

KEO - the Greek abbreviation for Cyprus Wine Company - is the largest and most popular beverage company in Cyprus, with a history dating back to 1927.

Apart from its popular beer and wine beverages, the KEO group has also successfully ventured into spirits, liqueurs, mineral water, juices and canned foods.

It is considered to be one of the largest industrial employers in the country.

I know these figures are a bit out of date, but I suspect that the tend continues.

Carlsberg and Keo most popular beers

According to the latest industry survey by IWSR Storechecks, Carlsberg, brewed in Cyprus by Ph. Photiades, was still in the lead in 2010 with a 51.9% market share, losing ground from 52.7% in 2009 and 54.9% in 2008. Arch rival KEO, too, saw its share decline marginally to 32.4% last year from 33.5% in 2009 and 34.5% in 2008.

Leon, the recently revived local beer brewed by Photiades, has seen its share of the market rising to 5.5% from 4.8% in 2009 and 4.3% in 2008.

When we moved over here 10 years ago I found Keo a bit gassy and a friend was drinking Leon so I switched and I liked it. At that time not that many Taverenas sold it but now you can get it most places in bottle and a lot of places on Draught. When you look around when you are out and about you see a lot of full and empty Leon bottles on tables so I would think that in increase in Market Share continues although obviously still a long way to catch up with the leaders.

Another odd thing, My Cypriot neighbour tells me, Carlsberg is the preferred beer, of right wing/conservative voters, and the left/socialist voting Cypriots prefer to drink KEO.....dont know where that puts me because I drink both.

Except August I am not really interested in beer as I prefer wine. But if I find "Pilsner Urquell" on tap is one of the best beers worldwide, while Italian beers is not their speciality but red wine. Italians prefer beer only when they order pizza.

Hang on a minute! These days, I only drink Famous Grouse or Bells scotch whisky (at home, after the Sun has passed the yard arm). But that doesn't make me an SNP wannabe 'Queen Nichola' supporter!

Just a thought, but many people visualize politics as a straight perpendicular line, Left to Right. Extreme left is clearly Communism (so UK Labour and CY Socialist are right of that extreme), while extreme right is Facsist (where UK Conservatives and CY right wing are left of that extreme)

Imagine it now, rather than a straight line, but as a circle, where extreme left meets extreme right, at 12 o'clock... Result? Almost identical !!! An autocratic, corrupted dictatorship! With opposition snuffed out, secret political police, knocks on the door at midnight, neighbours spying, labour / concentration camps for the rest of your life...

Most decent citizens would rather be governed by trusted democratically elected officials in the middle / centre (or at 6pm in my political 'circle' alternative take), no?

Cheers- AL :)

Must admit to being a fan of Kozel Czech Beers which are available from an booze shop locally. Reminds me very much of Watneys Brown Ale from my youth. Shame non of the local tavernas sell it though in which case the fall back for me is either Stella or Peroni.
Keo not by choice, Carlsberg same boring no taste, Leon marginally better than Keo or Charlie.

I do that daily from roughly 8/9pm until 12 hours later, Lloyd. More often than not at 3/4am it's 'raid the fridge' time, LOL! Cup of milk, biscuits or similar. A couple more crossword clues solved... Then back to bed for the next 6hr stint!

Tough when you're an old git like me.. 8-)

Sorry, Dominic... Please feel free to move the last three paragraphs to the 'different' thread you have in mind, as I did ramble a bit off topic after the first paragraph (which IS relevant to this thread).

No, I am happy to let it remain there in all it's non-sensical glory. It is only fitting that a thread about booze should have some gibberish.
