https://www.quora.com/Why-has-Britain-b ... right-wing I seem to recall many people including some on here saying how far right Britain was becoming due to Brexit. Now it seems it’s left!

My point being that some on here concluded that Britain was going to become some rabid right wing country because of Brexit. I just wish they’d make their mind up😉😉

I am always amazed by some people’s perception of where left or right of centre things lie….

Tories say the BBC is left-wing. Labour says it’s right-wing.

The country (England) overwhelming voted Tory. If that’s an indication of left-wing, when we have a cabinet containing Johnson, Rees-Mogg and others?

Johnson has an 80 seat majority in the UK. To the point where it is difficult to see Labour ever winning in the next 20 years at least. Traditional labour areas, including mining towns, voting Tory as they want right-wing policies in their lives.

And now the Tories are going to hit their reliable pensioner voters by making them pay NHS contributions if they're still working.

Announcements will be made today with this particular issue coming late last night.

Wonder if income from property rentals will be included in that? There will be a lot of very miffed OAPs around our area who won't be happy.

But they will still go and stick their X in the box when the time to vote comes around again...

I was under the impression that you do not become a pensioner until you claim your pension, if people want to carry on working then that is their choice.

Increase to NHS contributions now being discussed - live on BBC News website.

PM: Money raised to go straight to frontline
Boris Johnson tells MPs a new levy will raise almost £36bn - to be spent across the whole of the UK.

It won't be paying awards for middle management, he says, but will go straight to the frontline.

It will be spent on radical innovation including better screening equipment, dedicated surgical facilities, faster access to specialists and new digital technology.

We will do all this in a way that is right, reasonable and fair, he says.

The costs will be shared between individuals and businesses, including those above state pension age.

He adds those who earn more will pay more - and Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland will get an extra £2.2bn a year.

---------------------------------------

National Insurance to rise by 1.25%, PM confirms
From October 2023, no-one will have to pay more than £86,000 for care over their lifetime as part of the government's social care plan, the PM has announced.

Anyone who has assets of less than £20,000 will have their care costs fully covered by the state.

Those with assets between £20,000 and £100,000 will receive some means-tested state support.

To fund the plans, National Insurance contributions will rise by 1.25% and tax on share dividends will also go up by 1.25%.

The changes will come into effect from April 2022.

From 2023 the NI increase will appear on people’s payslips as a separate Health & Social Care levy.

After working for a number of years on projects from North Wales up to the Scottish Borders to stop pollution and raw sewage being pumped into the Irish Sea I find this so sad. Billions of pounds of funding from the EU cleaned the rivers, lakes and coast from discharges of sewage and it looks like they're back to square one.
This was another Project Fear that has turned out to be true.

It’s all about change Lloyd, we have to adapt make the best of the situation and move forward. Nothing will be achieved by harping on about the past!

For what it’s worth, I am a degree educated engineer but because I do not share the view on something you seem qualified to insult my intellect?

Again, if you are so passionate about the UK, why are not there trying to do something about it?

“Sums up the intellect of Leavers”? A new low for the man who couldn’t be bothered to vote. Once again resorting to pathetic jibes. Questioning the intellect of others whilst posting Twitter comments and silly photos belittling people and you have the gall to insult leave voters. Oh the irony. There have been many arguments put forward by leave voters on the benefits but EVERY SINGLE TIME you ignore them. Still, it’s easier for you to insult people I guess. How sad.

Aguila
I've worked with hundreds if not thousands of Degree Engineers over the years and can honestly say having a degree isn't a sign of intelect or being intelligent and that's not having a poke at you, my brother in law was a Doctor of Electrical Engineering and taught at one of the top Universities and I had to go around to his place to change the light bulbs.
A bit of a feeble line about going back to the UK don't you think, half of the posts on the forum are about the UK so are you suggesting anyone that comments about the UK should return immediately?
There are millions doing something about it, it's a long road just as some Leavers campaigned for forty years to get the UK out people are working to get the UK to rejoin or aren't we allowed to do that?

Alan
I disagree with your comment about Leavers putting up arguements, their arguement was that everything we posted was Project Fear; that was all Leavers wrote. Like the post above, we were castigated when we said there was every possibility there would be a shortage of chemicals but Leavers all screamed "Project Fear" but look all these Project Fears are turning out to be true and none of you comment, no one.
The problem is some are more interested insulting each other than arguing their point.

P.S. how do you spell arguement or argument and arguing or arguing.

Rather than argueing/arguing comment on this as to where the promised 350 million a week disappeared to.

They haven't negotiated and agreed the 40 billion bill yet so I don't think that's the reason.

Also the 40 billion is to pay for projects that the UK signed up to and are also projects that it benefits from similar to the Merssy Estury Pollution Elevation Scheme.(MEPAS I worked on) that are still in progress.
It's not just an exgratia payment as your'e suggesting.

Slip on shoes were invented for the majority of University graduates, I can tie my own shoe laces though. I was already QBE before I decided to do a degree course. I didn’t really need it, it was more to prove to myself (and I was bored and single at the time so it kept me out of the pub  )

If you can be bothered to look for it, there is a thread, possibly several, somewhere on the old CL forum where HiC said his reasons for leaving the UK was because he didn’t agree with the way the UK was going. To many immigrants, too many changes, UK becoming a nanny state with too many EU rules and regulations etc etc. Yet now, the EU is the best thing since sliced bread and wants to belittle anyone that disagrees with him….

If we eventually examine the wastes this government made on Covid suppliers, who were paid many times the going rate for things… plus the ludicrous money paid to Serco for Test and Trace and more…. Then the NHS could be sailing by now. But then again, Tory party funds would be struggling.

I’m not suggesting anything of the sort but a bill is a bill and has to be paid from somewhere.
