Masks mandatory from tonight.
Masks mandatory from tonight.
Everyone will have to wear masks in indoor crowded spaces from midnight on Friday and those failing to do so will be fined €300, Health Minister Constantinos Ioannou has announced.
The minister also announced restrictions on gatherings in the Limassol district, the centre of the recent spike in cases. There, no more than 10 people will be allowed to get together in social gatherings, while the maximum number of customers in restaurants, cafes and bars has been decreased to 75 indoors and 150 outdoors.
More generally, the new measures concern the mandatory use of masks in indoor crowded areas such as malls, banks, supermarkets, hospitals and churches. Those not using a mask will be fined €300.

I fear this will be a death knell for many businesses who were just beginning to get back on their feet. I hope I’m wrong.

I would guess that if no one else was in the village shop, it would be OK not to wear a mask.

I don't think a village shop would be classed asa crowded area.More generally, the new measures concern the mandatory use of masks in indoor crowded areas such as malls, banks, supermarkets, hospitals and churches.

My wife had to visit one of the hospitals a few days ago and had to return to the car to get her mask. When she went in, she said that just about everybody, doctors included, were walking around with protected chins only.
Restaurants have been much better. We had lunch at The Muse the other day and there were masks for all staff, worn properly.

I think that the spirit of this regulation means all shops as well as supermarkets! Where village shops are concerned, they are usually smaller and often packed with merchandise. So not much room for customers to socially distance.
Yuk, I hate wearing a mask in this hot steamy weather, now there is no option.
But you really can't wear a mask when out somewhere eating and drinking...

Measures across the Republic
The new measures, starting Friday night after the stroke of midnight, include the mandatory use of face masks in all public indoor spaces, including supermarkets, shopping malls, banks, hospitals, and churches, with violators facing €300 fines.

I wear a face mask walking from my apartment to the main entrance door of the complex - it is an indoor public space.
I never know who else might happen to use the same communal area at the same time.

Re: Masks mandatory from tonight.
The wearing of a mask will be mandatory from MIDNIGHT tonight. You must wear it in ANY indoor place where the public go. This includes every single shop, no matter how small. If caught without a mask €300.00 fine. If in the local pub indoors or restaurant, wear the mask but remove for eating and drinking.
All things are possible

I would say to Trev and anyone else who visits a shop (however small) to put on a mask. Both you and the shopkeeper are vulnerable. The shopkeeper particularly, who deals with many different people during each day, may well already have the virus; incubating. Possibly caught from somewhere else or a shopper yesterday.
Those who complain about wearing a mask will feel a great relief when they find their shop is closed and the owner is in hospital.
