Police booked 291 people who hit the streets on foot or in their cars without the necessary documents between 6 am and 6 pm on Wednesday, the first day of new restrictions on movement which came into force at 6 pm on Tuesday.Police spokesman Christos Andreou told CyBC TV on Wednesday evening that police had carried out 5033 checks over the 12 hours and 291 people were booked....

I wonder what the word ' Booked ' means in these cases.. Maybe it means they were issued with a ticket requiring them to pay a 150 euro fine ..

Possibly still "early days" for a fine. The message may not have got across to many, particularly many of the the young, who don't read the newspapers or watch TV News.

It will 'get across ' if they start dishing fines out and it is well reported.. I took a form with me this morning as I didn't want to risk a fine, no matter how remote the chance may have been ..
And I find it hard to believe that there are people who don't know that you have NOT to go out ..

Unfortunately the paper system is open to abuse. Judging by more or less the same number of vehicles passing my house, the decree is not actually stopping people going out. Surely self isolate means just that; don't go out unless it's essential.
