I'm trying to pay my post box renewal & it won't connect to JCC for payment. I guess a lot of people are trying to pay their car tax today!

Am aiming to re-tax a friend's car at some time...do I need proof of insurance?
Or is it logged on the system somewhere......

I think proof of insurance must be automatically checked, or it may not even be needed.. I certainly have never needed to provide it either on JCC or when paying at a bank ..

How odd. I renewed mine on 7 January and used the log book number with no trouble.I wonder what will happen post brexit for those of us who are "swallows" and drive on UK Licences(supplemeted by internmational permits)

But still an issue for those "swallows" who need to tax cars here and dont have a Cyprus Driving licence. Will they recognise the UK and International Licence as they have done in the past and did when we bought our cars.
Hopefully it will all be sorted out during the "transition"period!!

PS.

I did mine over the internet direct with JCC. Could it be a BoC issue?

I do not know how it will be when we leave EU for non residents but in the old days before Cyprus joined the EU we did not need an International drivers licence, just your UK licence, I bought a car in 1992, in those days you taxed it at either the Coop bank in January or after January at the Ministry of transport on the Polis road. I was informed when trying to tax the car at the latter that without the pink slip, I was not allowed to own a car in Cyprus, after 3 visits and a lot of waiting I finally got it taxed but always did it at the coop after then without any problem.

It has been much easier in the EU but I doubt it will change much.

Straightforward renewal on the JCC website. Just had to enter Reg number & last 3 digits of my ID (which is the same number as my GESY number)

I have always paid my road tax at the bank and
never had to pay an extra charge.

Last year 2019 I had trouble trying to tax my vehicle from the UK. I had to ring the Nicosia office and was given a universal code of 057. I used this and it went through straight away. This year I went through JCC as usual and filled in the code 057 and like magic this years tax disc appeared. Used my BOC debit card as usual. If anyone is having trouble try this code as they did say it was universal.

I renewed my car tax at my bank yesterday using a debit card. No problems, very easy way to do it!

I don't understand why people would want to drive to join a queue at a bank, when It's a 30 second job to do it through JCC.

What are you going to do with the €0.35 you save by waiting 2 months, risking problems if something goes pear-shaped at the bank or with the police?

Legally, the tax must be paid by 01 January. Insurers could deny any payout, so why risk it?
