Dust has been in the news recently. Dust warnings were all over the media last week, only to be scotched a day or two later by official sources. It turns out that the source of the original alert was one website. So, did they get it wrong or do the official sources need to change their seaweed? We have the photographs which show who was right...

Climax of the Dust with PM 2.5 particles was Sunday 9am as I posted on Coptic Storms.
Unfortunately the Paphos station cannot measure PM 2.5, but it is the
most dangerous form of very fine dust. Coming back walking the dog 8am
I had problems to breathe..., here a link which measures also PM 2.5!!

Since I got back from an early morning walk, my throat has been feeling a bit scratchy, I think there is very fine dust in the air.

Certainly, we have not seen any dust here, although the visibility was not perfect at times, but due to 96-98% humidity. It could be argued that for such humidity to slightly lower the visibility, it would require dust for nucleation. The thing that puzzles me is that rain usually settles the dust and we have had plenty of rain recently. I'll offer a hypothesis (actually pure speculation): in the recent cold, windy and wet weather situation, could it be that more people have lit wood fires in their living rooms (or poorly regulated oil CH)?

Photos not boring. They are quite interesting in that they show a view many don't get to see. Great for me as I miss Paphos whatever the angle. Sorry its not an answer about dust.

But the dust didn't smell like pollution. I lived in London long enough to know what dirty air smells like. This was nothing like that.

There has been a lot of dust here in Polis. Our swimming pool is certainly testament to that. The water is usually crystal clear but at present, it's looking decidedly cloudy.

Ours too. It's too cold for me to want to go in it at the moment anyway, but it doesn't look it's usual self.

I am not a pool cleaner, but owning several pools the last 33 years
in CY, some advice:

As there is more water in the pools as normal after the good rain
leave the pool alone that the fine dust can settle to the ground for 2 days (pool pump off).
Then hoover SLOWLY, not in filter position but on position Waste as most filters cannot
cope with the fine dust which will then come back in the pool. Mind the water level!
Good success. (I hate pool cleaning)

Ah, you mean clean in rinse mode, or is there another notch on the dial I am unaware of?

No, on WASTE position!! This position is to empty the pool!
Normally you have: Filter, Recirculate, Rinse, Waste,Backwash, Close.

Ah ok, but RINSE chucks water out too. I shall have to look at the settings. So far I have only used Filter, Rinse and Backwash.

Position Rinse is only for cleaning the pipe system from filter to pool.
After Backwash you always rinse for app. 2 minutes to do that...
Otherwise dirty water in the pipes after Backwash would reach the pool.

Ok, after a brief investigation I see that on our one we have a function "Drain". I gave that a go and it seemed to do what you said. I sucked up a bit but before I got too carried away I put it back on rinse, but have left the pump off. I then brushed all the dust /muck so that it is in only one area of the pool, which will hopefully make it easier to clean away in a few days.

Perhaps we should have a pinned post of "Top Tips" which could include nuggets like that?

Suppose this is when having a sand filter, we don't have it with our DE filter
