Surely, if farmers want to Increase their producion of Halloumi under the new rules they need to increase the number of herds of Cyprus sheep and goats? It seems to me that there are noticeably less herds of these animals than there used to be say in the years before Cyprus joined the EU. This isn’t a new situation I remember the local papers saying that Halloumi was going to have to contain more sheep and goats milk than the minimum 20% which was being used in production. ‘Village’ made Halloumi, if you can get it,is much nicer than the one produced commercially,

Easier said than done. The herds were decimated by scrapie. There is also less ground for mobile herds to graze the authorised plant species. Nothing to do with the EU, either; not enough animals and less incentive to breed them.

Maybe something will have to give. Perhaps herds will be allowed to graze other grasses as well?

Just returned from the UK. Halloumi was on the menu every restaurant we went to eat. There should be standards to provide a quality product.

Yes, it's like comparing a slice of long-life mild cheddar to a chunk of Vintage Farmhouse.
