The lockdown and quarantine
Being "almost" confined to your home, what do you think of this? ( in red )
400 people remain quarantined in Cyprus hotels
Around 400 people are currently in quarantine at Cyprus hotels that have been made available for this purpose, the CNA reports.
There are a total of 17 hotels across Cyprus providing services to the state for quarantine services, according to insider information.
Since the start of the pandemic, 1,200 people were quarantined in hotels, gradually reduced to 400 today.
Strict protocols are adhered to in all hotels involved, and procedures are monitored by police as well as the National Guard.
According to reports, hotel residents adhere to instructions provided, despite some isolated incidents of disobedience at the initial stages of quarantine.
Residents must remain in their rooms 24/7 and their meals are placed outside their door.
Medical service staff are also on the premises as a precaution.

I wonder how they pass the time.. It is strange for people who are confined to home, but at least most have things they can get on with around the house ..

You don´t have to import the virus from Italy or the UK. It will come via the green line (crossing points open or not).Happy in Cyprus wrote: ↑Tue Apr 14, 2020 5:18 pm I 100% support and applaud the Cyprus government for trying to make the isle disease free. Within 2-3 more weeks it might even achieve it's aim.
The problem then is that the whole population becomes Covid-19 virgins. Which is fine and dandy except that we need to let peeps come in from abroad, and in large numbers, in order to put life back into the tourist industry, on which Cyprus is so dependant. Already the government is shovelling billions of euros into a stagnant and ailing economy. It cannot do this for ever.
And when you let people in from countries like the UK, Spain and Italy, we'll be back to where we were a month ago. There are no test kits out there which can identify a carrier at all stages of infection. Thermometers aimed at the forehead are only effective when you have the start of a fever.
I really don't know what the answer is. Life cannot carry on as it is now for any length of time. And as Trump rightly said: We can't let the solution be worse than the problem.

Re: The lockdown and quarantine
The quarantine experience rather depends if the hotel is 4* or 2* from some accounts I have read on FB.
Re: The lockdown and quarantine
Someone I know, had recently to undergo the Govt 14 day quarantine after her flight back. Hers was at a hotel in Limassol, certainly not a luxury place. Her room in which she had to live for 14 days, lacked even a chair. She could only sit or lie on her bed. She only had her cabin bag, had no tablet or lap top, only Greek TV channels. No books with her. Her 14 days was like solitary confinement in a cell, she had 3 meals per day, food was just edible, she said. Always cold by the time it was delivered outside her door for her to fetch. She was incredibly pleased to finish and to be able to go home to her apartment in Paphos!

Re: The lockdown and quarantine
Our friends are currently in the second week of their quarantine period in a hotel in Limassol having been repatriated from Thailand, via Poland. The support they have had the Cypriot authorities has been excellent starting with with a phone call in the early hours of 2nd April Thailand time, which would have been late at night here on a public holiday, advising them of the option of a flight from Bangkok later that day. Great support from some kind Cypriot people with the inevitable language challenges when some problems arose at the airports given the unusual and short notice nature of the trip, Dealt with with very well after a long transit and immediately taken to a hotel, which for reasons we will probably never establish, they were moved from after a couple of days. The government provided a package of basic cleaning materials etc and they have had, the last time I spoke to them, good food, and helpful staff for any needs they’ve had. Yes, frustrating being confined to a room but they have WiFi so can keep in touch with people and world news and do some work. On departure they will be transported to Larnaca to collect their car and will be given papers to explain their movement if stopped by the police on the way back to their home.
Pretty good in the circumstances I think. Well done Cyprus.

Re: The lockdown and quarantine
With reference to someones remark that the infection will come via the green line. From what statistics have been published, they actually have less cases of Covid 19 in the north and are coping with their infection. Virtually every country has the corona virus.

Re: The lockdown and quarantine
They have less confirmed cases (yesterday I read about 100 but can´t remember where though) which isn´t the same as having less cases - especially when tests are in short supply. If you can´t test enough you obviously will have less confirmed cases.Kili01 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 15, 2020 7:29 am With reference to someones remark that the infection will come via the green line. Re: The lockdown and quarantine
I have read in the Cyprus Mail that the president of the Republic and the leader in the north have met and no doubt exchange information which is of mutual interest. Not all parts of the south are as ‘anti’ as unfortunately some are in the Paphos area....

Re: The lockdown and quarantine
These figures are NOT combined. They are the figures of the republic of Cyprus only.Austin7 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 15, 2020 3:35 pmI didn't say that or that the Republic would have that access, I merely said they are combined as on the attached worldometer. https://www.worldometers.info/coronavir ... #countries.

This is a good site for ROC statistics. Scroll on the municipalities on the top left to get the current figures for each area. https://covid19.ucy.ac.cy/ Page 2 is in English
