Luckily even decent bottles don't cost a fortune in Cyprus - I think only living in South Africa is more competitive in this respect.

Here in Qatar the only booze outlet opened after 2 weeks closure for Eid yesterday and there was allegedly a 500m queue outside the store in 40+ deg sunshine... - people seem desperate (and let me tell you that even bad wine costs a fortune here  ).

You are absolutely right Lofos-5. Very nice white wine for ca 5.50 Euro are available from Paphos producers. "Tsangarides" Xinistery and also the one from "Kolios" "Persefoni dry" are nice with a meal. Important it is always in Cyprus that the Wine is not older than 1 year, specially white wines and even more important for rose"s.

Both are favourites of mine - thanks for the age thing - I was not aware of it, but my fridge is too small anyway to keep bottles longer than a few days .

I think there would be a good chance in making some decent profits by exporting some of these wines. I know quantities are small, and that is probably best for quality, but still...

(I would be very popular here in Doha with a few bottles, we are not even allowed to bring back anything into the country unlike in the neighboring countries bar KSA and Kuwait).

Concerning rose wine in Cyprus: If you buy the "young" new wine p.e. next December the "2017" and drink at Christmas, it CAN be a really nice experience as the wine tastes like a Beaujolais Primeur, slightly fizzy. If you wait until Summer they taste either like normal rose's or they are already like vinegar :!: (I tried it many times in the past until I had enough ...vinegar)

We think the carton wine is much better than the bottles of Aphrodite which must be one of the worst wines in the world. Probably the best of the carton wine is the SODAP medium white wine, but the Keo is certainly drinkable.
Another cheap but drinkable carton wine is the 1.5 litre cartons of Italian Rose wine sold in Lidl.
