Agia Ekaterini

Post by Dominic »

If you take the road from Kritou Terra down to the B7, you will drive past this church, and cannot fail to be impressed by it. Well, don't just drive by it. Park, and take a look. You won't be disappointed...

The Church of Agia Aikaterini, in Kritou Terra, dates back to the 15th century and is quite interesting as a church in terms of its architecture. Source: http://www.cyprushighlights.com/.../agia-aikaterini.../

The church used to have 7 domes, but has now only 4. The murals were damaged by an earthquake in 1953. It is a mediaeval monastery church. It used to be a subsidiary of St. Catherine's monastery on Mount Sinai. Source: Living in the Real Cyprus by Vic Heaney.
