A rough estimate would be 2000 kilocalories. Sorry, can´t afford that.

Now I´m confused. I always thought that one "German" kcal is 1000 cal, even in English. However, it seems that this isn´t the case.
If you look at German websites like https://www.fettrechner.de/info/news/po ... hat-zucker you´ll see that it says 100 g of sugar contain 405 kcal, wheras similar websites in English speak of calories only (e.g. https://www.fatsecret.com/calories-nutr ... nt=100.000). So it seems to have been more of a language problem than a math problem. And one I´m struggling to get my head around at that.

I have no doubt this dessert is delicious and it´s energy content isn´t really bothering me. What mesmerizes me though is that 1 kcal in German should translate to 1 cal in English. How can that be? I´ll have to look into this.

Interestingly, there seems indeed to be quite a bit of confusion:
The Calorie you see on a food package is actually a kilocalorie, or 1,000 calories.
source: https://www.scientificamerican.com/arti ... %20alcohol.

Whereas the dictionary says:
noun, plural cal·o·ries.
Thermodynamics.

Also called gram calorie, small calorie. an amount of heat exactly equal to 4.1840 joules. Abbreviation: cal
(usually initial capital letter) kilocalorie. Abbreviation: Cal
source: https://www.dictionary.com/browse/calorie

Mindboggling!

Calorie has two definitions. When you say kilocalories, you mean calorie. Well, large calorie, to be precise.

That's what had me confused. We don't have that in the German language. To us, a calorie is a calorie and a kilocalorie is a kilocalorie. Small, large or gram calories are a foreign concept (pun intended).
