Air Fryers And Crispy Chips

Post by Firefly » Mon Apr 08, 2019 6:19 pm

Thinking I should go down the healthy route, I bought an air fryer, first time I tried it I made chips, what a disappointment, lacking flavour, and soggy.

I dried the chips well first tossed them in 1/2 tbsp. of oil, as per instructions, cooked on full power for about 20 mins, shaking up the chips several times.

What have I got wrong ? Any advice please.

Thanks
Jackie

Leave them alone to cook.

We double fry ours in a deep fryer - perfectly crispy every time.
Stuff the healthy route, just give me crispy chips!

I do them with 1 tea spoon of oil, 5ml, for about 30 mins until golden brown, I do not shake them just serve them up, they are always nice and crisp, my wife likes them but I prefer the full fat deep fried flavour.

Jackie, that's too much oil, unless you're cooking a mountain of chips for a whole family. One teaspoon of olive oil is what the wife says she uses for just the two of us. Plus, no need to shake, just leave them to cook on their own. Our chips are never soggy or tasteless.

Many thanks for the tips everyone, I will reduce the oil, I just followed the instructions in the book. Does anyone else add salt ?

Jules, I had to chuckle at your reply.

Wife sometimes sprinkles rosemary on the chips in the fryer and that makes a very nice change. Otherwise, salt goes on afterwards.

We did frozen spring rolls in our air frier tonight and it cooked them a treat.
