solar panels

Post by boro886 »

I was hoping to hear about the experiences of anyone who has had solar panels installed recently to provide electricity and not just to heat water. Was the installation easy, has it been a success in the amount of electricity produced and return.

Which company did you use and if you dont mind me asking how much did it cost. Thank you in anticipation of your replies.

We have had our panels about 16 months and we think it was a successful thing to do.
We used Andi at Solartec, near Papantonios traffic lights..
We have only paid about €30 for electricity in the last 12 months and that was because we had to use the aircon a lot on the heating mode when we had no C H boiler..

The installing company did all the paperwork and I just had to finally sign at the Electric board..
The cost was €5,300.

Trev, the €5300, was that for 12 panels (and invertor)?

To help with some maths what type of annual leccy bills do non-solar panel members see? Would be useful to also state size of home and whether or not you have a pool in the response. Armed with that and working on say a 15 year life (warranty period of a typical inverter?) we could do a quick internal rate of return to give a quantitative value of the panels.

Yes Pete, for 12 panels, Inverter, and installation....

Ian, that is interesting to compare.. I have just looked at our reading now and it is 18.6kw And our panels are facing almost directly South East

18.59 Trevor. I'd say we are SSE. Our architect was adamant that in Cyprus, SE is preferable to direct South.

Nothing at all... It works on the basis of you getting credited with the units you produce. These are then taken into consideration when the Electric board read the meter.
If in the two month billing period you make 900 units, but consume 600, then a credit of 300 units is carried forward to the next bill and so on.
Hopefully you make enough credit unit in the Sunny months to use against the larger consumption of units in the Winter months..
The 'clock' is set to Zero after (in our case) the February reading...

SSE is certainly not wrong in CY. Also for Solar thermic.

boto86. There is no 'payment', cosmumption and production are simply netted off so if production is greater than consumption, you just pay the EAC a flat rate of around €32 per bill (2 months). If you come more, you are billed according g to the standard tiered rates. The blanche is zeroed at the end of February so you cam't carry over a credit from one year to another.

What warranty period do you get on your inverter for that?

We paid 9000 euro for 20 panels some 2 months ago, but the result is a little bit disappointing, today 26,4 kw.
