Next phoned Dr re: INR, not available, on holiday! I found a previously issued test unused, so went and got that sorted! Time today to go for the prescription. General do not do GESY printed prescriptions! Pharmacy says prescription has a 10 day window to go and register from printing, so we lost one month. See your Dr, she says, so because the next specialist appointment now means the prescription will run out a month early, another trip to Doctor needed. The pharmacy then told us the diuretics are out of stock. Ring next week, every day until we are told they are in, but if they don't come in within 10 days from today they will also be lost! No idea what you are supposed to do if you are prescribed and can't get them! The other diuretic is also out of stock but had a replacement which costs extra. She said if they phone and tell them people are waiting for medication, they say, tell them to buy them! However some are out of stock even if you are prepared to buy them! Just been for first lot of medication on the GESY. First of all, the specialist printed off the prescription but told MOH to go for an INR test with the Dr before changing to the now available more expensive medication. She said we could get the prescription at the General until 31st August. I pointed out we wouldn't be allowed because our 3 month supply wasn't due yet. Since when! Both myself and my wife received, in the last couple of days, a printed prescription from our GP operating from the General and we have lodged those prescriptions with our preferred pharmacist. We received the first month's issue of the tablets mentioned on the prescriptions and were told to come back in a month's time to receive the next tranche of medication. We have retained the printed prescriptions for use as a reminder to the pharmacist. We paid the amounts shown on the prescriptions.General do not do GESY printed prescriptions!
I feel that some pharmacists are trying to avoid the bureaucracy involved in recouping monies from the GESY system by saying that some medicines are not available and trying to pressure patients into forking out more money than is specified.
My suspicious mind thinks some pharmacists may even be taking increased money from patients and still claiming from GESY, but I have no proof of this.
We have a good relationship with our pharmacist built up over 5 years and she has always put herself out to help us when it comes to medical matters, hence we have not had problems so far and she has clearly explained the procedures relating to GESY.

I think when Darrow said " General do not do GESY printed prescriptions! " he was referring to the fact that the General Hospital Pharmacy do not accept Gesy prescriptions..
Certainly the doctors there give out the prescriptions to take to a private pharmacy

That is what I meant Trev. The specialist at the general gave MOH a 3 month GESY prescription and told him he could get it at the general hospital pharmacy until 31st August. So we queued and were told no! As far as I know , to use the Hospital pharmacy the prescription has to be hand written in the prescription book..
If you took a Gesy prescription the the Hospital Pharmacy they have no way of charging you.. Nor do I think they are connected to the Gesy online system..

When I attended an outpatient appointment last week I noticed many patients still had their blue pharmacy prescription book. Also some patients only had labels to see a doctor whereas I have my medical file.
On a follow up visit to my Personal Doctor she was unable to read the diagnosis and report from the specialist doctor on her GESY system, whereas I could access the outcome as a patient on my computer. Fortunately I always keep a printed record of any tests/visits in my notes.
