I see Skype is now owned by Microsoft and if you haven't already done so you will need a Microsoft account to use the new updated Skype.

I thought the same thing! I also believe that since 2016 or early 2017, Microsoft announced that you won’t need a MS account to use Skype.

Like you Devil I am always out of date but only in the last week or so it asks you to have a Microsoft account no account no login, prior to this it did not, you may find you now if you haven't already to get yourself an account, as I did and many of my contacts. In fact, the wife bless her has never been asked to sign in with her Mircosoft account, until yesterday. She now has the required Microsoft account, it looks as if they are just forcing this now for all.

PS this all happened after last weeks Skype update download, until recently I refused this, but relented, then I had to log onto my Microsoft account, so I am not that outdated then

Update to version 8 needed soon , the old version runs out in November .
