Best Free Antivirus

Post by Firefly »

I have Avast, and to be honest I'm fed up of the pop ups which keep appearing. Can anyone recommend a good free antivirus please.

Thanks

Jackie

I can't recommend any free one: they all have ads, weak performance etc. Far better to pay a little and get a good, performing one that offers total security. I've been using Webroot Secure Anywhere for 5 years. It is fast, 100% unobtrusive and uses cloud updating and scanning in the background. It has never once let me down and you can use it on PC, MAC, tablet, phone etc. They have various packages and I recommend the
Internet Security Plus package https://www.webroot.com/us/en/home
PC, Mac, Tablets or Smartphones
Lightning-fast scans with no interruption
Protect yourself from identity theft
No time-consuming updates
Secures your smartphones and tablets
Protects your logins and passwords
$44.99
3 devices / 1 year

For less than €13/year per device, you can't go wrong.
(I've no connection with Webroot other than as a highly satisfied user)

I've never paid for AV in my 25 (?) years of computing.

I also gave up Avast due to the pop-ups

My current choice is Bit Defender Free

Many say that the built in on with Windows ten is fine.

Malwarebytes Free version is very good.

I have used it for years and never had any problems.

Thank you to those who gave me answers to the question.

I have used Avast for a few years, but I get pop ups many times from them and It's annoying when you're in the middle of something else. RW thank you for your input, always sage information. I will have a look at the reviews for all that have been recommended. Many thanks Guys.

I never get pop ups , perhaps you just need a pop up blocker ?

Avast has been good for me for years .

When I had Avast with Windows 7 never had pop ups. Now I have a new laptop with Windows 10 I do. Coincidence maybe, or maybe not.

On this I recently downloaded the free version of Avira AV, big mistake it kept coming up with a box saying "Luke Filewalker" Avira and this b****y scan box could not be deleted even with a paid for file/program remover, so this meant I had to get a clean reinstall on my PC at SOS losing all of my emails and files, be very careful what you use for an AV system, so back to a paid for Kaspersky, I think the best AV at a small yearly cost.(Available from Computer SOS)

Jackie you can get free pop up blockers on the web! https://download.cnet.com/Pop-Up-Blocke ... 01569.html

RW, Yes, I did Utube this scanning file, all too late for me, also as posted I could not remove Alvira AV or Luke Filewalker, I had to have the PC clean reinstalled, I am sticking to Kaspersky in future it is reliable.(not expensive but not free either) 8-)

cheers, all the same.

Avoid Alvira.

RW

In that case I could uninstall the Avast that I have now, and install it again using custom installation. Is that correct ?

I have adblock plus as well. Some sites will not work with it on, but that is fine just turn it off for that site.

It would be nice if you turned it off for this site, too.

I do seem to get plenty of adverts on Paphos Life. On this page I have Amazon at the top and Shipshape at the bottom.. But of course i know that they change. But there is still an advert at the top and bottom of the page

I would hardly call two banners plenty. If you disabled your adblocker you would also get a single google ad as well. It isn't much to ask, on the grand scale of things. Google ads don't generate much revenue, but they do generate a bit.
