Sudden trop in temperature...

Post by cyprusmax47 »

It was forecast for this afternoon that in some areas it will rain... but when I look at the webcams on PL it is everywhere dry.
For a sudden at 3PM it started heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning and the temperature dropped from 31.8c within 5 minutes down to 21.4c, so more than 10c in that short time. What a lovely smell came with it and the other good side effect was that my solar panels are cleaned from all the dust... :)

As you can see here in central CY, no rain (red line) since this morning, temperature (green line) ± constant between 31.1°C at 12:00 to 31.1°C (chance!) at 17:00. RH unfortunately rising rapidly since 17:00, currently 63%.

Here you can see Devil the situation at 14.30PM. I was just on the edge of the dark blue. The yellow dots were lightnings....(Wetter online Germany)

Luckily I switched off internet that time as my house was struck by lightning twice, as one can see on the second image..

At last, a shower from just before 14:00 to just after 15:00 , 11.0 mm rain (red line on graph). Note that the rapid drop in temperature (green) started just before the rain started due to thicker clouds blocking the radiation. As the rain continued, the temperature eased down from about 30°C down to 22°C, due mainly to evaporative cooling. Note that max gust (dark blue top graph) was just at the start of the rain. The wind direction changed from SSE to W for a few minutes at the end of the squall as the small high pressure moved on.
