Pool duck meets friend (animal story)

Post by cyprusmax47 »

Big surprise to have a visitor in my friends garden. Of course the pool must be very inviting for her, but perhaps not only that....

There is obviously something interesting floating in the pool, so she goes up... and

right in the water

and chase it away
Image

shall we be friends?
Image

well, it takes perhaps some time
Image

better have a rest now and have a good look
Image

I am OK now, let's have a race....

and I am the winner....

My question is now what I have to do with the duck as she leaves a lot of mess around and in the pool.... any ideas?

that's the sort of question you need to ask before entertaining him with a duck, rather than after.

We had a duck in our pool in the UK once, the trouble was she brought her ducklings with her, she hopped out when she'd had enough, unfortunately the ducklings couldn't, so MOH had to fish them out with the pool net. Still got the photos.

That made me smile, Max, thanks for the story!

Are you on Facebook? If so you can try asking for advice on the Birds of Cyprus Facebook group https://www.facebook.com/groups/176359182567527 But it's a closed group, so you'd need to join first.

Try taking it to the reservoir. One of our neighbours had the same problem. Not only was it using their pool but it wanted feeding too. It would peck on the glass of the patio window each morning. They took it to the reservoir, but it was a homing duck and came back. In the end I think one of the animal sanctuaries took it.

Hiya! You are lucky - I love ducks and they are the things (along with daffodils growing on roundabouts) that I miss most about the UK. I think Donald is probably a chap, incidentally. Paphos Zoo have ducks, and have done for many years. It might be a good idea to give them a call to see if they could help. I hope you will let us know where he ends up! Your posts always make me happy.

Thank God it is a boy. Only the thoughts that there might be a nest as well in the garden.... :)
