Oleander Caterpillars

Post by daveg »

Absolutely over run with these Caterpillars this year...they have devastated the Oleander new growths.
Must be over 200 of them this afternoon, now moving across the patios to pastures new....
Anyone else had this phenomenon....?

Wait until they reach the Oleander Hawk-moth stage. They are the most beautiful creatures on God's earth.

I was over run with them last year at my old house, the caterpillars were set on stripping the poor Oleander hedge I was trying to grow just as it started to flower. So I demolished them with a suitable insecticide so never saw ‘The most beautiful creature on earth.’

I love seeing moths and butterflies - but I am certainly considerably less keen to see their juvenile versions! My mint barely survived the predations of a particularly hungry bright green caterpilar 😠
