Post by cyprusmax47 »

Ancient building foundations (BC) were found next to which old village in Paphos district?

No, it is not Sinti Monastery Yioula. The village (abandoned) one can recognize on this photo in the background. In the front more foundations excavated.

I blogged about the village Max is referring to some time ago. There's actually a picture of the green tarpaulin in it.

Hope you don't mind me giving a clue Max. :)

Not at all, Dominic. This excavation will be as famous as Khirokitia (Choirokoitia) one day at least if not more...

I also can give another clue: above of this excavation, right on the road, is a very popular tavern, used specially from tourists and bikers... ;)

Well, as I said it is difficult. The abandoned village is called Prastio, in the Dhiarizos valley, near the heaven for climbers:" Πέτρα των Χασαμπουλιών" and just below the Extreme View Tavern.

Thanks Max

I drove past Xtreme view on Saturday and thought to myself that I really must, at some point, follow the signs to Prastio. I've driven that road countless times and often stopped at the café, but never ventured down that road. I will definitely add it to my list of places to explore.

You can't drive direct to Prastio from the Extreme View cafe. You are better off following the signs to the monastery and then turning left once you have crossed the river. Then you have to follow tracks that take you a bit up the hill. You will eventually have to walk through a field to get there.

See the blog for more info.

Thanks Dominic. I don't mind walking at all, but I'll probably wait till the autumn. Always good to have new places to explore.

It wasn't the walk, so much as the height of the undergrowth you will have to walk through. Autumn / winter are the best time for a visit really.
