Work on our villa.

Post by Anarita John »

Thought I might do this as a type of blog. As many people know, we had huge problems with our developer going bankrupt and us being taken to court as A certain bank wanted to repossess our home here in Cyprus. We still feel guilty as we have our title deeds but the majority of residents on our development of 10 properties do not and are still under threat from A bank.

The firm we have instructed to do the work on our pool and fit a 5kw solar system to our roof started today. Very impressed so far. A phone call at 11am asking if they could start the work. Full consultation on where the water from the pool was going to be drained to. Pool filter emptied of old glass material and thoroughly cleaned. Workers who are fitting the solar panels also consulted us about the positioning and when they left, took ladders down and hid them behind our shed and took all the rest of their equipment with them, even though they are coming at 8am tomorrow.

Our pool is now drained. Other quotes we had completely ignored the leak we had on the main drain and just wanted to repair lack of suction. One company actually said we will repair the slight leak on the main drain when your pool liner needs replacing. However, the company now doing the work are replacing all of the pool pipes, skimmers etc, including the main drain and repositioning the filter and pumps to within 10 metres of the pool, instead of the 100 metres distance that the developer put in.

One coincidence. When we bought our house, we used a registered estate agent, as advised at the time. We agreed the work with this pool and solar company in the same office that we initially bought our house.

All the very best with the renovations John, these homes here are a bit like the Forth Bridge, get to one end and start again.

I went down to our usual spot on Friday and sat there as I do, and then Coco had one of her rare fits, the car was two hundred meters away and she was out of it on the ground, Coco is too heavy to carry or even lift up so I was in a real mess, fortunately a holiday maker saw I was rather agitated and he looked after her while I fetched the car, such a nice chap I thank him truly! Coco is fine again now..

Glad Coco is fine. Our developer put the pump room far too far away from the pool and the pipes were laid on rubble, rather than sand.Too great a distance for anything to go wrong.
Have been going down for my walk in the evening recently as we have been sorting out the work needed. Went down last night but only walked 3 miles as it was still very hot.
Rosemary went for a swim at Gerriskippou Beach whilst I went for my walk. Think the whole of Paphos was there.

Work now finished for the day. Rather hot out there. It was 33c this morning when Rosemary came back from the hairdressers. Pipe work now installed in cupboard. Now just needs connecting to the pool which will require a lot of digging. Plus the pump control box and electrics will need fitting.
Solar panels installed on flat roof. Now just need the rest to be put on the tiled roof. Probably another couple of days work.

I have never known such polite workers. So far we have been kept informed about every aspect of the job and even asked if it is ok to keep ladders etc on site for tomorrow.

Your installer of the PV system used obviously REC Twin Peak 2 solar panels (modules) one of the most advanced technology on the market with excellent results.
Panels with REC Twin Peak technology have a unique “twin” design, which enables them to generate electricity even when they are partially shaded. Over time, you get a higher yield from your installation beside other advantages..

I had the same solar units fitted by GA..... very pleased with all aspects....

I suspect I have a leak on a pool, that has a solid structure, no liner, coming from one of the drains or pipework, as excessive water usage, but no visible leak.

Interested in details of company you are using, if yu do not mind PMing me - thanks, Jim

Very likely a combination of high evaporation we have at these temperatures, Jim, and perhaps there are cracks in the skimmer boxes, below water level, not easy to recognize though.

A couple of people have pmed me, regarding the name of the company. As Max rightly identified the units being installed, it is Greenair who are doing the installation and also doing the new pipework for the pool so that the leak and the lack of pressure are repaired.

I am very glad to hear from you that you are satisfied with the way GreenAir and it's staff is working.

I will forward your praising sentence to the big Boss, as he is perhaps not aware what's going on at the building sites...

Afraid not. I have an infinity pool, no skimmers. Only drains on bottom that feed an overflow pump to a water feature that overflows Into a hopper.

Solar panels all fitted and job completed today, Friday. Now just got to wait for the electricity company to come and inspect the installation and connect to the grid. Bad news, this could take two months because of holidays.

Swimming pool, all the pump equipment has been installed into the new pump shed. Now waiting for the ground work to be done.

Once again, the two guys who did the solar panels cannot be praised enough. Yiannis and Demitris did a splendid job. Everything installed to extremely high standards.

If you don't hear from Green Air within the next 2-3 weeks, then I would contact EAC Nicosia, Mrs Nasia,( callcenter <callcenter@Eac.com.cy> ) She is very helpful and sorted things out,( different matters, )for me in the past...(delayed bills... disconnected from the grid... etc)

Thanks Max.
Will try that, but Greenair have been fantastic and we should get a date for the inspection this week. They also managed to get a copy of our completion certificate, something which we, nor anyone else on our site, never managed to get.
The work being done on the swimming pool is coming along nicely. Will post pictures later today.

PaphosAl (RIP) would have really enjoyed following this thread. He always seemed to be happiest when he had technical things to follow, and to check that the right piece of kit was being used for a job.

Awwww, so right 2quarterpints! RIP mate x

Have to say, as a long standing mate of Al I do love it when he keeps getting mentioned, or when an old thread is resurrected for some reason and there's Al popping up with his wisdom!

Yes it's nice when a thread he participated in pops up again. Like he is in another room and has just popped back to say hello.

As we have no pool at present, and our workmen have been starting around 7am, I have been going down to Geroskipou Beach in the evening for my daily walk and Rosemary for her daily swim. Everytime I walk past Riccos Beach, I think of Al and how he would have enjoyed the new facilities, especially the new toilets, as he, and lots of other people used to sneak into the Fish Tavern to use the loo, rather than use Riccos's chemical loos.
