As I said on another post, it should have been trialled in just a single town area first. Introducing such a major change over the whole country was inevitably going to result in problems. Doctors, Pharmacists and the public have to be patient for problems to be identified and then resolved over the next 6 months.

I think the key thing to take away from that is that patients need to be patient and not greedy. I am referring to the people demanding tests they should have had done years ago but didn't.

Let's get it straight 'As was stated by yourself and one other'. Totally impractical. Yes the present system has teething problems but many people are of the opinion that it will get sorted. Shortage of some medicines etc. attributable to the GESY were, in the main, existent beforehand or being manufactured by reluctant pharmacists.

I remember when the old, totally free system was changed to be chargeable - a whole €3 to see the GP and 50c per prescription or test. Suddenly, the queues at the hospital dramatically reduced. This current situation is the same reaction but in reverse. If it is free (or apparently so as not paid for at time of use), or if it is pre-paid, then the attitude is very much one of "I will ensure I get my money's worth" - come on, you must have seen this attitude in play at all-inclusive buffets where plates get overloaded and much food is wasted!

That's why those buffets have such small plates.

Fancy a showbiz story? I know you do so here goes...

My wife once ran a bridal shop in the UK. One of the customers wanted her to attend her party, so she could do any stitching in emergencies. My wife politely declined, as it would mean being away from me and our daughter all weekend. So the lady said that she could bring us to the party too.

The party was in Dubai. We were flown out there along with 200 or so other guests, and put up in a nice posh hotel. We had a lovely time.

Anyway, come the night of the party, we see there are some showbiz guests, including Shane "Two Plates" Richie and a bloke from Game of Thrones, who's name escapes me. I was shocked to observe that Shane "Two Plates" Richie handled the small-plate-buffet-dilemma by carrying not one, but, wait for it, TWO PLATES!

Yes, he had the showbiz front to waltz up to the buffet and get two plates of expensive nosebag. And I double-checked. He wasn't getting a plate for his dear old Mum or something like that, they were both for him.

This is how Shane "Two Plates" Richie got his nickname, though it doesn't seem to have caught on yet.

Back onto the topic.. I phoned our chosen doctor this morning and asked for an appointment just to obtain a repeat prescription.. So I was given an appointment tomorrow afternoon, when I should only have to wait a small amount of time.. My last visit to a GP was at Polis Hospital, where I waited just for a prescription, over two and a half hours ..

Trev my wife went to the chemist today to pick up the meds that the Chemist was out of stock, she asked to get the prescription back and was told, no need I have it on the computer, she then said what if I don't use you next month or you are closed, he said no problem, every chemists now has access to your prescription?

WHL. it is good to know that you can use whichever Pharmacy you want to.. We are going to try a different one to the one we usually use.

daveg, it is worrying, because you have no idea if they have even got the papers you sent.. We applied by using our chosed doctor. It took a while but not 5 weeks. Hopefully you will hear something soon. Have you tried the Gesy phone helpline, I here they are very good..

We are in the same position. Coming into the 7th week! I registered with Doctor, MOH with Nicosia. I don't even know if my registration went through. After s week of trying I managed to get the Secretary. She left a form for me at reception, which had all my details on, but I still had to send all the paperwork copies again, that I had given her. I can't find out where my 1st copies went because she is on holiday until end of July!

Posted an application with set of supporting paperwork last Monday, received email confirmation of acceptance from GESY this morning. Went back online registered with Dr of choice and late this afternoon received acceptance from her. Just need to pop into the Dr at some convenient time to prove Yellow slip and that's me sorted. My wifes went through weeks ago but somehow even though mine was in the same envelope it did not get actioned.

Once other factors such as doctor's receptionists are brought into the equation you are leaving yourself wide open to their actions (or lack of actions) which in turn can complicate and delay matters.

You cannot expect the doctor to do all this extra office work.. So the receptionist and other helpers have to take on some extra responsibility

There are of course lots of things to take into account. Many of what were private GP's here already have a receptionist to take care of the bookings when clients phone in.. Even the dentist that you an I use has one..
But also in our experience many of the doctors working from the different hospitals don't have an appointment system. You just turn up and wait outside the surgery.. Just as there are big changes for the patients, so there are also for the doctors..

Cypriots at buffets are a law unto themselves especially at weddings! I regularly see adults returning to their tables whilst balancing 2 large heavily laden plates of food - for themselves! This is repeated when they've only eaten half of it and decide it's pudding time...

No wonder so many experienced die hards are seen leaving with 'doggy bags'?!!!
Only Cypriots, your having a laugh, I go on many cruises, which are predominantly Brits, they would get Gold if it was an Olympic Sport, little old ladies, who back home would have a boiled egg and a slice of toast for lunch, heap their plates so high they need the waiters to carry their plates back to the table for them, then after a few bites, leave the rest for waste

Don't forget that doctors salaries are based upon how many signed up 'clients' they have up to a maximum of 2,500. I would assume that from their salary they might have to pay office/receptionist's costs. So if they have the full complement of 'clients' and maximum salary, those particular doctors are certainly going to have a full schedule and a longer waiting list.
