Relatively easy to explain: I came to Cyprus in 1970 and my first house was built in Latchi area in 1984. In all this years you get automatically some knowledge about the area. Coincidentally I stayed in the house of a friend only 400 m away from Saint Barbara Monastery for a couple of month until my house in Argaka was finished 1997.... :)

Wow Max, you must have witnessed the invasion in 1974?. We lived in England at the time and my parents tried to hide the news from us as many of my family were very close. As children, you sense something terrible was happening but didn’t know why our parents were so sad. Children’s minds work overtime and all sorts of scenarios. I thought they were going to divorce or something. It wasn’t until they knew the family in Cyprus were safe before they told us all.
I love Argaka, when visiting I always go to The Fly Again. The owner is so welcoming and has recently renovated the beach side but also making sure that all new plants attract the bees.
Lovely place, lots of English expats go there but all very friendly. 😊

Andros, the invasion 1974 was very disturbing for me. Exactly the place the Turks were landing onshore near the 5 miles beach east of Kyrenia, I had lovely holidays June 74 with my peers from the natural history museum Nuremberg. I had so many ideas to leave Germany towards Cyprus after spending 4 years my holidays at Karavas/Kyrenia. But 2 years later with the first flights available to Cyprus I decided to choose Paphos area and Latchi was a bit like Kyrenia (mountains + sea). In the end I settled there, building my first house near Latchi. Just caught the Cyprus bug. :x

Good morning Max
I remember Latchi when there was no marina and only one Taverna. Where the existing restaurants are now, were carob stores.
I much prefer the old Latchi. Only a small wooden pier, a few working fishing boats and the shoreline. I remember a fisherman and his family who slept in one of the warehouses which was filled with netting from his boat and the evenings were spent barbecuing their catch of the day and fixing the nets.
I first learned to swim in the Harbour and using a watermelon to hold onto for buoyancy. Very happy memories and can still remember very clearly.
I try to avoid Latchi now as it has changed, I preferred the simple way of life from days gone by.
We also used to visit a small coffee shop in Ayia Marina which had a lovely atmosphere. I remember all the old men playing backgammon and drinking coffee with oil lamps lighting up the veranda. Lovely couple were running it, if I remember, the old man had blue or possibly green eyes which I found amazing. We visited many times as we were all related! It seemed that everyone I was introduced to was a cousin, aunty or uncle. Lovely memories as everyone was so welcoming.

Hello Asteri, what a beautiful name, very unusual, is this a family name?
I also believe this area is outstandingly beautiful, we have everything here, mountains, ocean and luckily fresh produce.
I am not green fingered myself but I am lucky that a friend of mine is.
Do you know Andy from Argaka? Widowed about 5 years ago. Lovely man. Goes to the Fly Again with his daughter and son-in-law??
